Restoring Faded Black Plastic

So the rear fender and other parts on my SV650 I just purchased were getting kind of grey from the years.

There's a bunch of stuff I've tried...diesel fuel, chain lube, oil, lotion...nothing seemed to actually seep in and make it stay black.

Then I had an idea...

This is the "brand name" version of what I used. Almost a week later and it still looks amazing. Looks brand new! It works on turn signal stalks/housing...any sort of rubber or black plastic that has turned grey. I just sprayed it on a rag and smeared it around - it only takes a little. If your plastic is really, really faded it might require a second coat.

I just thought I'd share this with you guys. Good luck! :)

Well yeah, I'm sure that would work even better but with my method you can just wipe it on and don't have to worry about getting it on anything. :p

Spray silicone works great too! Can be a bit slippery though wouldn't recommend on seat or tires!  :icon_eek:

Too bad. Maybe when I do it to the dash I'll take more pics. For now this is all you get:

I've decided to call this bike "Silver Bullet". Like my silver "tail of the dragon" sticker? :)

As a side note...the 02 SV650S uses the EXACT same turn signals as the newer generation GS500F's.

Some prior discussion about leather polish:

Any idea how long it lasts? I have used it on my police boots when i had to do inspections, didn't even think about it, guess i will have to try it and see. i might still have some.

So i tried it and WOW it works (the shoe polish) will put pic up tomorrow, but really suprised that it worked so good. My plastic switch was almost white on top, and now it is black, and the white writing on the switch shows up now. Will have to see how long it last is the only thing.
