3 sportbikes on this road at 9-10 pm.  One didn't make it.

Now, I don't know the details, and what I'm saying may not have any bearing on what happened last night but the likely scenario is this:  This on-ramp is a lot of fun for a rider on a fast bike with sticky tires.  One or two of them have probably done this several times, but the 3rd one probably not.  The crash happened approximately where the marker is on the map, nowhere near the apex.  Rider found himself in way over his head and freaked out.

I was riding along a twisty road at night once with my friend. Around some of the turns I would almost lose sight of him and just open it up at the end of the curve and down the straits to catch back up. After a while he realized that he was losing me on the corners and slowed down a bit. I don't think he said anything about it when we stopped but a few days later we were talking and he asked why I slowed down in the corners, he liked going faster through them. I enjoy the twisties too, but I have only been riding a street bike for a few months so I am just not comfortable diving into corners at night on an unfamiliar road. He understood and I have been getting more confident riding on the highway. I'm glad I can play it safe and not feel pressured to get too far out of my comfort zone.

Judging by the spot did he low side it? Looks like me may have started the turn in, freaked out, grabbed a handful of brakes, and went down.

Its a shame. The only thing you can blame is male bravado though. That doesnt make it ok, but its a shame that sometimes people feel pressured into doing things they dont have the experience for.

That sucks.  If that is a matching red CBR1000rr they show from behind, It looks like it may be wrecked. Maybe cold tires and excelerating into the Apex?   :dunno_black:

God bless his his or her family.

I just re-read my last comemnt, and realized it seemed a bit crass.

Not my intent.

Simply meant to say that i wish more value was put on riding at your own pace for the enjoyment.

It can baffle some people that such an innocent piece of road can be so ruthless. Recently I went on holiday to a city where I used to live and on an open piece of highway straight as an arrow and overtaking lanes in the space of 1km there were 3 crosses! I couldnt believe it. but yes as OP said ride your ride not ur mates one.
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Also warm tires vs cold. Not that it was a factor here but to remember.
When I was in CA there was a curve that I'd have trouble running 30mph on when I leave my house, but on the way back I'd easily run it @ 50, it was a speed limit of 45 there and I always used to think, yea this road cant even stand for 30, WTF are they talking about, and it was nearly the same on my KZ440, my vulcan 750 my GS or my eliminator.
Cool.
