I just took my gs500 out of storage. It sat about 4 months. I did have fuel stabilzer in the tank.

So i ride it for a week. Last nite i ran out of fuel. I switched to "res" but the bike still would not start.

I filled up the tank. And the bike starts and idles but. It is very difficult to get the bike going. Once i get up to 5 or 10 mph its okay but to get it going without bogging down i have to rev up to 3500 rpm and ride the clutch for a while untill she gets going. Do you think the old gas and the gunk in the bottom of the tank clogged something up? And why wasnt the bike starting in "res"

I am new on this bike. So any help is appreciated.

If you ran out of fuel you probably sucked some dirt from the tank into the carbs clogging the jets.  A carb cleaning should remedy that.  As for the reserve, check to make sure your fuel hoses are routed properly, the reserve and on lines may be reversed.  The reserve is the longer nipple on the tank petcock which goes to the nipple further towards the back on the frame petcock.

Mine ran like crap also when I got it out of storage and I ran it out of fuel a month ago. It runs fine now. I ran some seafoam through the tank.

Yah. Get some fresh gas in there. As much as you can, to dilute the old stuff. You'll be 'tankful' for the fresh stuff.

So just dump a bottle of seafoam in the tank? The problem is with the trouble i am having getting her going its not good to take her out... I guess i could let jet idle for a while

Fuel additives are not a replacement for a proper carb cleaning.

I agree with Jess. I'm just saying what worked for mine. I havent had time to do my carbs or take it anywhere. I just used about a quarter of a bottle.
