02 gs500 surges at idle then dies

Hi everyone, my name is Aaron I'm new to the world of the gs and i am having a terrible time getting my bike to run perfectly. so heres the back story I bought the bike a month back, at first it didn't start apparently the generator bolt was drilled out. fixed that, cleaned carbs but it only ran on one cylinder, so now i installed the k and n pod filter put in the 40 pilot jets and 147.5 main jets and 2 #4 washers, so the seconding cylinder fires now but my newest issue is when i start my bike(not riding just sitting in neutral) it will rev to about 5k then when i bring the idle screw down it just drops and turns off. but when it gets close ( around 2.5-3k) and i give throttle it rockets back up and just idles there. can any one help me out?

check for air leaks around the manifolds.

Yeah, sounds like an air leak.
