Just was checking the maintenance schedule for the GS. Apparently you are supposed to replace the fuel line & the brake hose every four years?

I have an 08. If I wait til the end of the season to do this stuff is she gonna come apart on me? 4300 miles or so on the odometer.

No. The 97 I had had all original fuel lines, brake lines, everything. All of them were in excellent condition and even after being taken on and off a few times, they showed no sign of cracking or anything.

I'd be SLIGHTLY concerned that it only has 4300 miles on it...that's less than 1100 miles a year and unless it was taken out every day, the majority of its time was spent sitting. A good way to tell is by taking a bunjee cord or something and clamping the brake lever down pretty far, and then inspecting the lines for bulging or cracking.

Cool thanks I will try that for sure...I think what happened was it sat @ the dealer for a while, they sold it to one owner eventually. He put 1300 on it and then "outgrew it" & then I bought it last spring & tagged 3k on it. I've got my fingers crossed that the dealer didn't just let it sit for 2 years.

Fuel lines are not something to worry about when it comes to costing to replace them.

if you are iffy about them, just replace them.

Go to a dealer and ask for the specific size Fuel Tubing you need and length. (6ft left me extra on my 94)

and DO NOTTTTTTTTT let them try to have you pay Anymore then "around" ONE Dollar a FOOT!

I pay One buck a foot at the salvage yard I go to.

Prior to that last year at a large dealer in the area..... the pricks charged me what it would cost for their entire ROLL for a mere like 3 or 4 ft of tubing.
I didnt know better.

(edit)
that blue tubing is what it will most likely look like.
Yes it isnt the same ugly Grey as we have stock.
But it works just fine.

I never replaced fuel lines or brake hoses on either my 97 GS or my current 02 GS which has 93k miles and counting on it.  Never replaced them on any of my 4 old Hondas before that either.  Doesn't hurt to look at them occasionally though.   :icon_lol:   And check the tires occasionally too, they tend to get too old before they are worn out on low milage bikes.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

I've got an F so it could be any color of the rainbow & I'd be all set I think! Thanks for the tip & price though. I recently got abused on a tire change, but didn't know any better til I saw what other people were paying in forums. I learned my lesson though.

That is awesome news. And just put Sport Demons on this year!  :woohoo:

hahaha dare I ask how much on a tire change?

Average is between $25 and $40.

First time at a big dealer cost me $30, 2nd time $40.

Most recently at a small harley shop, $25 for ANY tire swap.

but a local rider on our local web site has all the proper tools to mount and balance and offered to do it for free to members.
so no more worries there for me :)

Just bought 6' of 1/4" fuel line from Autozone for just over $7. I know the actual size is 7mm but the stealership wanted $4.50 per foot. Told them what they could do with their $4.50 per foot fuel line!  :flipoff:

I bought some clear MotionPro with fiberglass reinforcement and it looked great, but when redoing somethings over the weekend, I noticed it was ROCK hard.  I took off the clamp and it 'fell' off the carb T.  Not sure what happened there but very disappointed in it.
