Engine Burning Oil Question

Yesterday I went for a short ride and it smelled like burnt oil the whole time.  I wake up today start the bike and let it run for about 2-3 minutes, then let it sit for about 5 or so check the engine oil level and the oil is empty (without screwing the cap on) if I screw the cap on it has a bit (just the tip of the dip stick.

I changed my oil not even 300 miles ago, how would it burn through that much? I know it leaks oil from the seam when it gets too hot but it's a little seepage, not a steady flow.

Should I add more oil, try starting the bike / cooling it down and trying again?

Check the bolts and O-Ring where your oil filter goes on (the burning smell is from hitting exhaust maybe??)

If there is a leak somewhere else and it's small...try a different type of oil that's thicker.  I use 15W40 Delo 400 (the kind that goes in large diesel trucks).  No leaks here.  Using thinner oil will cause leaks and existing leaks to leak more.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

Bad Piston rings would cause you to burn oil as well.  Check your spark plugs for oil fouling.

I just hope it's not something that is a big deal.

If it is the piston ring, is that kind of a game over type thing?

It's not game over, but it is top-end rebuild time.  Not a task for someone who's not very comfortable with a wrench.

It would be game over me for then.

Also, I'm a moron.  I walk back to check (after adding 1/2 a quart of oil) and say to myself..."the bikes on a decent angle.  Get the bike upright and I over filled it wayyy too much.  Turns out it did go through a bit of oil but not 3/4 of a quart.  Drained a bit so it sits on the full line now.

Sorry for wasting your time..lol

Bottom end seems to go before the top end on the gs. If its at the bottom of the dip stick, the engine is probably okay.
