I posted this on a local forum but the community there isnt great so no help! Ive been looking on this forum for a while as i have a GS500e and there seems to be a good community here and all i really want is opinions on what to do colour scheme wise so here goes:

Hi all!

I have been restoring a suzuki A100 and on the cheap which is great fun.
Unfortunatly I have come across a couple of cost related issues.
Here they are:

The Chrome on the guards is pretty rubbish. the front i could get away with but the rear is just too darn ugly
re-chroming = $HEAPS. new guards from thailand = $180

The second problem is that i wanted to repaint in the original colour (see picture). i want to the paint store and they said it was a candy which is 3 layers or something and would cost me in the ballpark of $300.

This is far more than i want to put into my cruddy DIY learner bike/ resto bike. So my next idea is to paint the bike in 2k gloss black and get the pinstriping done in gold on the tank and Paint the guards black too with the gold stripe (kind of like a older british bike kind of style) . But im not sure if this will look any good so I would like to get some opinions on the matter

Here is a link to my photobucket:

The blue bike is what i was aiming for - a original restore. unfortunately out of my price range.
theres a couple of pictures on my mess/garage/mancave with the progress so far.
and the black bike is just to get an idea of what it would look like in black.

Also a few pictures of a suzuki TR50 street magic ive restored - its an awesome wee beast. apparently they run rings around any bike on the cornering stakes. i wouldnt know though im talentless! I just like riding

This is a triumph with gold pinstriping on black guards:

Im really not sure if an a100 could pull this off though!

By the way, my name is Guy and i live in New Zealand. Theres not many GS500s here cause you need a 250 for your learners and people usually upgrade from a 250 to a 1000.

anywho opinions are most welcome!
