Front sprocket orientation?

I have just replaced the chain / front sprocket on my bike and was wondering if anyone could confirm the orientation of the gearbox sprocket.
The previous owner of the bike had put a new sprocket on with the shoulder facing in towards the engine, but judging by the wear (the chain has cut into the outside edge of it) I would guess that this was the wrong way round?
So should the shoulder in fact be facing out?
I put the new sprocket back on this way round and it looks "right" to me, but would appreciate confirmation.
It would explain why the previous chain didn't last too long anyway

Yes, shoulder should face out unless you've shimmed the sprocket carrier out to fit a 150 rear tire.

Thanks, good to know that I got it on the right way now   .
