it runs ok but has problems when i twist the throttle, sometimes it turns off and sometimes it chokes...

since i have to clean everything and get it ready for riding and racing, what tips do you have for me?

should i buy the jet kit, clean the carbs, filter....i don't know much about bikes so any tip you have for me would be great

The first thing I would do is get a manual, Haynes or Clymer are better than the Suzuki service manuals, although anything is better than nothing.  Since the bike is a 1992 with only 6800 miles, it has done a far amount of sitting which makes me think that the carbs are probably gummed up.  You can pull the carbs, clean them out, maybe install 125 main jets and 40 pilot jets, and then visually synch them.  Then, assuming you don't have a vacuum leak or valve train problems, the bike should run okay.  Also, you'll want to look at the air filter, if its dirty sometimes you can get away with cleaning it with compressed air, but if its really grimey, then you should get a new one.

Congrats on your purchase - did the previous owner mention anything about the problem?

he didn't say that that was a problem...all he said is that the bike has been sitting for a while and the gas is old so that's why it doesn't throttle good...i havent riden the bike yet but i think if i take it for a spin around the block it will probobly run better...

can you tell me where i can get those jets and other parts? online?...i will get a manual for sure

Welcome to the list.  The Suzuki part number for the #40 pilot jets is 09492-40014.  They might be standard issue in Canada, and your dealer might have them in stock.  My dealer had a little difficulty in finding the number in his system, but was eventually successful.

are those jets hard to install and will it give the bike more power?

i went to the dealer and asked about the jets and he said that he has to order them..i didn't want to order before asking you guys....if i get biger jets will that increase the power of the engine?

one more thing...i've read that the vance & hines ignition advencer is not made anymore and imposible to find...i just found one on parts411.com

if i order this part will this fit in my '92...

thanks

That part will fit...but doesnt exist. many people have gone through this-you order part and they'll tell you its on back order until x date...forever. They aren't made anymore and only place they occasionally turn up is on ebay (waaay overpriced there). When you put your bike up for the winter take yours out and send it to Bob Broussard (search for his ignition advancer mod thread). He modifies the stock one to be advanced...all for the cost of shipping it back to you.

Jets are easy to change if you aren't adverse to removingthe carbs and taking them apart. Here are two very good and clear "How-To's" for rejetting thanks to members here:

Rejetting corrects the lean condition that the bikes come from the factory with. This affects the first 1/4 throttle mainly. Also affects how long it takes to warm up and how hot the engine runs. Will make the bike run better and a little faster but that's just a side benefit.

Yes, you'll have to order the carb parts, either from the dealer or another source but I've found them to not be in stock, generally speaking. Others may have different experiences.

Good luck.
