Speedometer light not illuminating

Hello, I have an electronics question regarding my 2005 Suzuki GS500F: I'd like to test the wiring for my speedometer light but don't know how. I've seen a very detailed wiring diagram on this forum, but I don't know where the wires are physically located. I don't even know if this wiring diagram is applicable to my 2005 bike: http://www.bbburma.net/Scans/Haynes_WiringDiagram_US_90-96.jpg

So I figured I'd ask here instead of looking all over the place for gray and a black/white wire.

Backstory for anyone interested:

I recently broke down on a two-lane highway. I was doing maybe 50 mph @ ~7000 rpm, hit my turn signal to change lanes, then lost all power. My bike backfired and sputtered for a while, the tach jumping like crazy from 0 back up to 6000 until I pulled over. I was able to push start the bike, but the electrics seemed totally dead. The bike ran horribly, so I played it safe and got a ride home with my friend, and let the shop pick it up the next day.

My shop diagnosed the issue as a simple short circuit in the horn wiring. They said that the fuse had blown and the culprit was likely the horn wires that were somehow resting against the engine block. I bet that when I hit the turn signal, I fat-fingered it and got the horn too.

So I got the bike back from the shop and it's running again, but I noticed that my speedometer light doesn't illuminate anymore.

Where is the wiring harness located? How can I test to see if it's the wiring that's bad and not a burnt out bulb?

i would do a search for "speedo wiring" or "how to take speedo out" or "speedo problems" .. and check the wiki on wiring related issues .. which you can also search for ...

last year when i started on here a few ppl recommeded i search 1st cos often its already been asked a bazillion times  :D .. so i passing it on   :thumb:

i have had a few problems with wiring .. and with a search, a few questions and finally a workshop manual (although a online reference is cool too) that i could have right beside me at the bike plus a reliable multimeter .. all was sorted with relative ease.

my initial thought though is just a blown bulb...  :)

Bulb.
Wiring for speedo and tacho lights come from same place.
Check bulbs first. Otherwise, wiring under the tank as that's where they all connect on the 2004+ models. Older models have everything crammed into the round headlight bucket.

Thanks guys! I'll update after I check the bulb. Hopefully if that's the case I can find a replacement at my local AutoZone.

So I took apart the housing and checked the bulb and it was indeed burnt out! I replaced the bulb with a Sylvania 194 and it has worked out great for the past several weeks. My only complaint is that it is slightly brighter than the stock bulb, but I haven't experienced any power issues because of it.

Thanks for the help guys!
