Hi all

I finally got my 91 gs500 going the other day and im still unsure of its behavior when it is low on fuel.
I have only ridden it a couple of times so far and we are in the middle of winter here so i dont feel inclined to go out riding.

Anywho what it seems to do when its a bit low on gas is when you pull on the throttle at idle the revs jump up, then it bogs and revs up again.

I want to know if this is a carb problem or not as i had the carbs rebuilt at a bike workshop and if its not right i will just send them right back.

BTW bike has stock exhaust and air filter arrangement.

Also, how much fuel is left in the tank when you cant ride anymore? Mine should have about 4-5 litres or about 1 gallon for the imperial types and i wouldnt have thought that i would be running dry for another litre or two yet

Sorry if this has been covered before i did do a bit of a search but couldnt find the info

Cheers

That sounds about right when you need to switch to reserve.  Mine is an 01 model with a bigger fuel tank than yours, but there is a lot of fuel left in mine when I need to switch to reserve.  When you get some seat time on it, you will know when you will need to switch to reserve, fuel up, etc.....Not a carb problem, just a low fuel issue

As a comparison (all in Miles), I have a 2009 with the larger tank.  I get about 180 miles before I have to switch to reserve.  My bike is rejetted and modified.  Bone stock, I could get 220 miles.

Older models have a smaller tank.  I have heard that you can go anywhere from 120-130 miles before reserve kicks in.

YMMV, however.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...
