How to reach the carb sync port

Hey everyone,

I've got a 2008 GS500, and on the weekend I was trying to do a carb sync. The vacuum port on the right side is easy enough to get to, but the vacuum port on the other side (the one covered by the rubber cap) is impossible to reach. Even with needle-nose pliers I couldn't get the cap off without risking ripping it apart. Has anyone done a carb sync on the new GS and been able to figure out how to attach the carb sync tool to this port? I'm hoping the answer isn't removing the carbs first...

Thanks for your help!

Unbolt the gas tank and stick something under it to lift the front of the tank off the frame.  That should give you plenty of access.

heres what i did .Removed vac line that goes from right carburettor to fuel tap ,blocked where it came from at the tee. Put the fuel tap hose on to left carburettor vac port and added in a tee and a small peice of vac hose at the back of the fuel tap and capped it there ,now all i have to do to access left carb vac port is lift the seat and there it is  .You only have to do this once to realise it should have been done at the factory..

After my first sync I added a piece of rubber hose that became a permanent part of the bike, it can be seen in this photo.
