Hmm. So these do exist. I don't want to pay $50 bucks for one either. Is it possible to make one?

Cheap. Go see your local dealer

Older one:   CUSHION,FUEL TANK   44511-34A00    $5.49

Newer One: CUSHION,FUEL TANK  44511-27E00    $8.31

Newer one has an extra tab with a place for a bolt. Old one just slipped on or was glued on. Either can be used.

Maybe your local dealer!
My local dealer in OZ is about 10 times the price.
Found another on fleabay off a GSF600 that apparently is the same for $20

Google the part numbers. According to my sheet that shows how Suzuki determined part numbers, they are not a GS500 specific part. They're generic, used on many bikes. Should be easy to locate or hit up a bike breaker.

I use the newer ones now. I drill and tap a hole so they stay on when tank removed.

I guess you need one for your new bike? I love that red color. I've got a perfect tail set of that type. A VERY VERY early photo of Junior. My - how Junior has changed! (The list is soooo long - I should give a prize if someone could find everything different from this picture and how Junior looks today.)

If you were placing an order with the West Seattle GS500 Parts House, I probably have some of those. I need to sort out parts. By itself, postage would be a killer.

I googled the part number. It shows up all over the place - as I suspected - because it is a generic part. It is not a GS500 specific part.
GSX650F, GS500, GSF1200, GX1250, etc. Some places do not even associate it with a specific bike.
Should be easy for you to find one.
