2005 GS500F leaking brake fluid

Just noticed brake fluid is suddenly leaking out the top of my bike.  The level is still above the line.  I popped off the top and there was a little plastic fleck floating around, which I removed.  It looks like the plastic on the housing is actually corroded.  The brake fluid was changed in Oct of last year, by a local motorcycle shop.

What should I be doing about this?

Is it leaking from the top around the screws? If so, look at the condition of the big rubber gasket. You did not include it in your pictures, so I hope it is there!  Are there any tears or holes in the rubber? If so, you will need to replace this part. The plastic bit you found in there does not look familiar to me, maybe your local shop didn't do a very clean job of servicing your fluid??

The gasket is done, you need a new one and from what I can see you should clean the surfaces on the cap. This will make for a nice level surface for the new seal you must replace.

Leaving it like this will kill the master cylinder. Find the part and install a new seal. You will need to bleed the brake line, no way of telling how much crud etc got into your line.

Best of luck.

For a part such as this, should I be ordering OEM?  I'm not sure what part (number) I should be looking for.

I need a replacement gasket for the front brake fluid housing, and probably a new top/cap for the housing.

(Is that right?)

And where would I find these specific parts?

Will probably have to be OEM unless you find one used.
