Hey Macka ....    Count me in, just doing a bit on the bike at the moment and came in for lunch ....  I seem to have got a bad batch of fuel somewhere ... full of dirty bits that have had horrible effects on the carby jets but will have it blown out soon and reassembled and a fuel filter put in line ... so  woohoo me wanna play :woohoo:

The in-line filter is a must. The strainer in the tank will stop the boulders getting through but that's about all. I am watching the Superbikes on the telly at the mo. Soon a mate from ESMRI is coming over for a coffee/chat/fiddle. The Suzi is cleaned and ready to go but I planned to clean/checkover the other bike this arvo. Let's arrange a meet-up soon. I am available most Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Mondays if I am not away on a rally/ride. As I said before I am a little restricted at the mo as the Good Lady is partially incapacitated but that should be under control in another week or two.

Inline fuel filters notoriously cause fuel feed/starvation issues in the GS500.

The screen in the tank is actually pretty good and the holes in it are smaller than the needles in the carbs. So it should be all you need.

If you start bogging down, experience signs of less power, etc., remove the inline fuel filter and go back to stock.

Sorry Mister, I don't agree with your statement that the in-tank strainer is good enough. If it was, there would not be so many posts on this site about the need to clean out the carbies. So many people seem to have problems with contaminants/water/sludge getting into the carbies that the strainer must be inadequate. I agree SOME in-line filters can cause problems as the GS does not use a fuel pump to push or pull the fuel through the filter. In 10,ooo km I have had no problems with my filter in any way and it is still almost clean. The carbies have never been touched except to adjust the idle speed a little. The engine starts and runs perfectly. :thumb:

If the fuel filter makes you all warm and fuzzy then use it. But I have 59,000km on my gs without a fuel filter and my carbs are not stuffed. The yanks leave their bikes unattended for 3 months of the year and the fuel gums up the carbs.

Hey guys,
I'm still keen to meet up. Just give me a bit of notice. Fridays or Saturdays often work well. Give me a bit of notice and I'll try to get my wife to do her thing on that day.....we have to manage these things sometimes, don't we? If any of you guys with wives and hips need any advice, let me know. Kinda in that field.
Anyway, getting my license this Friday. Thought I'd do it with Rider Brothers at Calder. Did the L's with Armstrongs but thought I'd see what someone else was like. Want to do an advanced course soon. Anyone have any thoughts about the various options?

prmas

I'm off to the Golden Dragon Rally this weekend so a meet-up is off for me. I will leave about 9am on Friday and not return until Sunday pm. The following Friday to Monday are OK as far as I know at the moment. The wife's rehab is going very well with my help. The Physiotherapist is very happy with the progress but of course keeps telling us that more visits are needed. If these bills keep coming I may have to sell Suzi! NO, just kidding.
Good luck with the test.

What sort of price would you get for your wife? Funny, a similar name to your bike.

Hi All

Yeah still keen to get together. I did a ride with my Bro and a mate to Marysville last week. Great fun but still learning to judge which gear and speed I should be going into corners. Will all come with time I suppose. The weather is getting better so hopefully get out in the next few weeks. I rode to work today too to get some time in traffic.

Speak to you all later

hey Rashy .... I had the priviledge of meeting the great Bill Shankley when back in 1970 i was a corporal in the st johns ambulance brigade and was lucky to be able to go to the football matches on duty of course , in my home town of Liverpool ..... Just call me"Shanks "was what he told us when he addressed us all before we went on duty ... our commander knew him personally and asked if he would say hello to us... before a game at Anfield..

That's awesome Smeggles. Even more reason to catch up with you. I just spent 2 years living in Glasgow. I went to Anfield to see LFC v Wolves last season. I took my 12 year old son. It cost me £300 as all I could get was corporate package tickets. It was one of the best days of my life and worth every penny. The corporate part was hosted by Jimmy Case. We got to meet him and he signed my sons football shirt. We had a win, I got to see Stevie G play with King Kenny at the helm. Great atmosphere and I teared up singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. Will never forget it.

I went to Ibrox the following week to see Rangers v Hibs. What a contrast. Was a scary experience. Lots of tension and loads of police.

The weather is looking good for the weekend. Before I make any other plans for a ride somewhere, are any of you guys up for the long awaited meet-up and coffee?  :dunno_black:

Rashy, try this one on for size: :icon_idea:

Meet at Biker's Gear in FTG at 9.30.
Ride through Healesville and stop at the Black Spur Cafe at about 11.00 for coffee and a snack.
The reason I suggest the Cafe is because I have been stopping there for coffee for over 35 years. It is not the best coffee you will find. It is not the best food you will find. It is, IMHO one of the best places to sit and sip coffee and watch the bikes wizz past. When the weather is good you will see hundreds of bikes go by.
If that does not take your fancy, ignore the Cafe and continue on to Marysville for coffee and lunch. Depending on the time you have available, we could head back or continue on and come home via the Reefton Spur.
Described above is one of my favourite ways to spend a lazy Sunday. There will be lots of bikes, some of them going fast (not me) and also police on the prowl so I just move along under the limit and enjoy the scenery.
If you have a preference for another plan just say so. I have done the Cafe/Spurs thing many times and can do it some other time.
BTW, Eastern Suburbs is having our monthly meeting at the FTG Bowls Club tomorrow night. I will be there from about 7.40. Some of us (including me) spent this past weekend at the Golden Dragon Rally so there will no doubt be some discussion about that.
If any of our other contacts on this thread (Smeggles etc) are interested to join us for the meet-up/coffee/ride they would be most welcome. It is not far on the freeway from Langwarren to FTG.
How does that sound to you? :icon_question:
