Temp question

I'm sure its been talked about before on here, but my bike runs poorly when the temp outside is above 85*F is this normal or do i have some other issues. Bike does run noticeable better when its 60* up to 85* F even when the bike warmed up. carbs have been cleaned. looking at doing a full engine tear down this winter for a project at school being that I'm going for mechanic. ideas on what to look for.

My only guess is something to do with either the mixture or ignition, but I'm leaning on mixture.

Running good cold or warm indicates carb mixture issues. I have seen where heat can cause issues with ignition components, however.

During your winter tear down I'd check things like carb boots, exhaust condition, coils, ignition pickup, valves, etc.

What is your carb set-up?  Do you have stock jets, number of turns out on the mixture screws, washers under the needle?  Running poorly when the whether is warm can indicate that your mixture is too rich.  It could be rich in one part of the throttle and lean in another.  How does it act in the cold vs. hot?

Carbed bikes tend to run better when the temperature outside is cooler because the air has more oxygen.  If it is setup for cold weather riding, it will run a tad lean when it's hot outside......normal.  You could always turn the fuel screws out another half turn to see if that helps.

its only when the outside temp is above 90*F and the humidity is also high.

I have the full Jardine Rt-1 exhaust with a K/N lunchbox air filter, and a Projet jet kit.

I think this winter I'm going to get newer ignition coils from pinwall. thanks for the in put guys.

Search the forum for how to check the ignition system.  You'll need a voltmeter.

Speaking from experience, don't just throw money at it...take the time to troubleshoot and make SURE it's the coils that are bad for instance.

they $14 on ebay for both. so i will probably do it regardless, but i will probably test them anyway just for the fun of it. thanks tho

Is there any way for you to post a video or describe in more detail what exactly is going on?

Variations in motor performance are just the nature of the beast when it comes to carburetors.

Does it backfire frequently when you rev the motor in neutral? Not the same as backfiring when using engine braking...which is actually called detonation and is common with freer-flowing exhausts [read: louder].
