Hey guys I'm new to the site! Thought I would knock out two birds with one stone here with an introduction and a question.
My name is Adam I am 25 years old, and I am from Louisiana.
I recently bought a 2007 GS500 and absolutely love this bike. She is Black/Silver. Purchased with 5k miles and I bought it from a friend that had kept up on maintenance. He even cleaned carbs and replaced tires/ brakes for me before he let me take it home.
Picked it up for $3000.00

I ended up crashing to the ground at a low speed, The bike is fine except for a few scratches on the fairings.. And I am ok as-well..
I have seen pictures of people turning their bikes into a "street-fighter" build and I really like the look of this, and have decided to take off my scratched fairings and turn this bike into one of these.

Heres my question to those that have made this modification or others that may know about it...

Where did you purchase your headlight and blinkers? (I really like the look of the single (7inch??) headlight.)

Did you use OEM parts from another model bike?

I have searched for all these questions throughout the internet and have only come up with peoples builds and no "parts-lists."

I appreciate your help and am looking forward to becoming a member of this community.

Thanks and have a wonderful day!

Hey, there. I am new here too, just picked up a bike in very similar conditions as yours. I got an 06 GS500F with less than 3k on it for 2100 (great price I am told.)

The previous owner dropped it, so I took off the scratched fairing as you plan on doing, but I am going to use the stock GS-F headlight.
Here is an old post that showed the part numbers from denniskirk to get it finished, I have mine in the mail right now!

If you are insistent on buying and using an OEM headlight, its probably smart on getting an OEM bracket, as well. The F and E models are nearly identical, fitment shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks alot man, and grats on your bike, sounds like you got a great deal on it! Let me know how your mod turns out! I'll be working on mine too but it may take a little while, work is keeping me busy!! Job security I suppose lol.

Just to clarify...

Do you want to make it streetfighter - or - like a naked gs500?

One is a lot of work the other is simple.

First off, Welcome!

Now, for the headlight i used the OEM GS500E headlight, not too hard to change from a GS 5000F, i have a GS500F aswell in which i removed the fairings / headlight and what-not (mostly because the previous owner totaled it  but go to the projects section and you'll see what alot of people are doing, honestly there isn't really much of a parts list for a naked GS.
it's really easy to remove the fairings so thats not a big deal, no big left-overs or anything
here's some of the things you'll need off the top of my head
-headlight + mounting gear (can be purchased as a set, i prefered the OEM)
-Mirrors (i have gs500E ones)
-Blinkers
maybe some other stuff to, i forget, but these are the bare minimum to stay legal.

Perhaps you don't understand what I'm saying...
If you have "normal" OEM 'F' blinkers, and they are still functional.... you're good to go.

If you have custom blinkers, though, you're out of luck.

technically, they're a little shorter than 'E' model ones. But personally, I think they look better that way :)

A quick note on blinkers... check with your dept of transport for the spacing rules in your jurisdiction. You'll find they need to be X distance apart. You may not get pulled up for it if they are closer, but it is something you can get nabbed/fined for.

ooo. wow, didnt think of that. thanks for mentioning.

So I just looked up the california code, as an example. (and since that's what counts for me!)

it gripes that the front ones need to be "at least 4 inches away from the edge of the front lamp".

Hmmm..
well, my "F" ones may not quite be long enough on the closest part. So, the housing isnt 4 inches.
But, the *bulb*, technically is just about 4 inches away.
Yay legal ;-)

Thanks for the input guys. You have been much help.
