Splitting the case/rebuilding the transmission. HELP!

I have removed the engine, taken the clutch off, the covers, oil pan and almost everything else except the alternator, oil pump, and head.  I can't get the case to split!!!  I have beat on it a little, but it won't budge.

Do I need to remove the heads to split the case?  I think I have everything off that I need.  I took off all the bottom case bolts and the one top case bolt that is in the starter valley.  Any thoughts or possibly a guide that could help me.  I just got a clymer manual, but it tells me to completely disassemble the top end, and take off the alternator.  I don't have a puller, and I don't want to remove the heads unless I have to.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Do I just need to beat on the seam and keep working at it to get the case to split.

HELP!  Thanks guys.
