Hey guys... Im brand new to this whole motorcycle thing. Bought my very first bike a few days ago, and im having a few problems. I start my bike up with the choke on and most of but not all of the time if im not playing with the throttle a little bit it will stall. and the moment i disengage the choke it will stall right off the bat. So im having to drive around with the choke on, which im assuming isnt very good for the bike. But sometimes if im driving with the choke on it will idle at around 3000 rpms... any advice to this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Play around with the idle adjuster screw, see if that does anything for you. If not, give the carbs a good cleaning (and rebuild, if deemed necessary).

Oh and welcome to the forum
I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

Remember that it should idle around 1.2. So if it gets lower than that before it dies, I would say its probably definitely the idle adjuster screws that need tweaked.

make sure the bike is warm before messing with the idle screw

Hey, thanks for the welcome... So I dont think its the idle screw. I was playing with it all morning and there was no change, the minuet I release the choke and let go of the throttle the bike stalls. any other suggestions?

When I had this issue, it was a combination of carb jets being messed up and vaccim lines being pinched because they were routed incorrectly.

Jeremyfuhst12

So what did you do to the carb jets?? The guy I bought it from said he had replaced the vacuum lines a few months ago when this problem started. I dont think its that.

you gotta pull the jets out and clean them.  give the entire carb bodies a good cleaning too with a combination of carb cleaner and compressed air

Great, ill give that a go and see what happens! Thanks

i would suggest a service manual, or review the videos that have been created as a walk through by fellow members so you know what to do ahead of time.

My neighbor said it sounds like the idle jet and I should run alcohol in the tank to try and clear it up... does that sound right?

Maybe it's just me, but that sounds like a bad idea, i would take the carb off and just clean it or hit it with some compressed air

Hell no,....just get a manual or download one and clean your carbs.  Be meticulous and go through them well.  Replace any parts that look like they need it.  This forum has loads of information, just use the search,......good luck to you.  I know it's your first bike, but don't be intimidated to learn more about it.
