Replaced clutch pads and discs and now can't get clutch to engage!

I recently picked up a 1998 GS500e.  It only had 3300 miles on it, but the clutch slipped quite a bit especially when cold.  After about 10 miles of driving and things heated up, it would grab appropriately.  I couldn't live with that having to drive 10 miles before heading on any journey so I just replaced everything inside the clutch basket (metal discs and fiber rings) also new springs.

I watched the video here that walks through things step by step.  I'm an old certified small engine mechanic so I am comfortable with the procedure.  It seemed to go off without a hitch.  I used OEM parts too.  But then came time to adjust the clutch afterwards and that's where my troubles began.

The clutch handle has lost its tension but does return when pulled.  The clutch does not engage at all and I've played wit the adjustments at all three spots - handle, top of case and pushrod screw.  The pushrod screw can be twisted all the way in and still nothing!  I'm beside myself and need some experts to chime in on this before I get fed up and haul it to my local shop.  I haven't ridden in over two weeks now while I waited for parts to be delivered and I'm going thru DTs man!   :icon_eek:

Any suggestions for what I might check or try out?  Much appreciated guys!

when i replaced my clutch assembly, I make sure everything was torqured down to spec, then started by adjusting the clutch cable coming off the motor on the left side ( I did it so the ?clutch worm drive screw? just has a little bit to movement before it starts to make contact with the push rod. then go up to the clutch handle on the handle bar and adjust that.

Did you soak the plates prior to installing?
If you did not ,they can stick together, and not engage.
ALSO the springs need to be aligned perfectly or near perfectly to go into the pressure plate.
If the springs are holding the pressure plate out it wont grab.
Take it out and check/redo.
Makes sense that you have tension yet nothing...you are still compressing the springs ,but not letting the pressure plate touch.
