No Fuel!

So I somewhat recently bought a 91 GS500e that wasn't running due to the ignition switch not working(key wouldn't even turn.) Easy fix. However, I also had to replace most of the fuel system, i.e. tank, petcock that goes in the tank, and fuel lines. She runs fine when I directly put gas in the carbs but when I hook up all the lines to their respective petcocks, the line that goes from the mounted petcock to the carbs is clearly empty. I tried switching the setting to premium. No dice. I did previously take the mounted petcock apart to make sure it was clean, so I'm thinking it was either 1) I put it back together wrong. or 2) some sort of vacuum issue. What should be my next step?

Setting it to prime bypasses the vacuum system and should allow fuel to flow into the carbs under gravity.Do you actually have fuel getting to the frame petcock?
Is the tank mounted outlet switched to the on position (srew slot should be vertical from memory)?
I like a non-sequitur as much as the next Giraffe.

I made sure the tank petcock was in the "on" position and fuel was traveling to the mounted petcock. But when it gets there it stops.

Is the vacuum line connected to left carb and not pinched?
Fuel lines from the tank can get pinched. Same for fuel line from frame petcock.

1. DO NOT HAVE IN PRIME!
2. Disconnect output from frame petcock.
3. Connect a short piece of fuel line
4. Put petcock in PRIME.
Do you get fuel? If not, check both likes going into the frame petcock. Also, try petcock in the other 2 positions. The metal clip that identifies the positions can get on backwards so prime is ON and ON is prime.

Thanks adidasguy.
So I took apart the mounted petcock and reassembled it, followed those steps and now have fuel running to the carbs. So that issue seems to be resolved, however, it still won't start. The bike hadn't been used for quite some time before I purchased it, but once I got all the parts that I had thought I needed installed it was running. I rode it for about 8 10ths of a mile down my street before it died. What would make a bike run for a brief amount of time and then not start? I was thinking maybe I need to get the carbs tuned? But its really just a guess. Any input?

Carbs could be messed up - dirty, floats set too low. That's all I can think of if you:
1. have spark
2. engine will turn over (i.e. battery not dead)

What if you spray starter fluid into the air box?

Did you check the fuel level in the carbs? (Clear u-tube to carb drain, open drain and check level. Many posts on how to do this).

Do you have gas in the tank? (Set to PRIME so it uses the lower reserve fuel pipe and bypasses the vacuum). It may look like lost of gas but is really only a small amount due to the shape of the tank.

Have the carbs been cleaned? Floats could be stuck of jets clogged.

Try setting to PRIME so you know gas is flowing in the absence of a vacuum.
