I have an 04 GS500F with 13k that was pretty much stock.  I bought the bike a year ago with 8k on the clock from at least the 2nd owner and he was only aware of maintenance having been done on bike but no upgrades.  I felt I was ready to upgrade to a larger cc bike or maybe a V-Twin but Mama said "No" so I decided to do some upgrades to my GS.  Thus far I have replaced rear shock (Kat 600) and front fork springs (Racetech 90 kg).  I have re-jetted with 20/62.5/140 and initially added K&N lunchbox.  Lunchbox didn't work for this configuration.  No throttle response and bike was "farting".  I read about this phenomenon and you can't appreciate until it happens to you.  Anyway, I also happened to have the K&N drop-in so I put that in today and BOY did that wake up my bike.  It is a totally different bike.  It really pulls hard and "quick".  I had read the posts about jetting and wasn't sure what to expect.  Well let me say that thus far the results far exceed my expectations.  As regards suspension, it is like a new bike.  No diving, minimal rebound, much quicker into and through curves.

Next on the docket is to replace the front brake line with a stainless line.  After that I  plan to install a performance exhaust system.  I am thinking in order of preference 1) Yoshi; 2)V&H; 3) Jardine.  Any feedback related to your experience with aftermarket exhausts would be appreciated.

Only remaining upgrades after exhaust would be to change sprockets to get more acceleration.

Good work. I would think about front springs as well.
Edited: Cause I'm a dumby.
