I picked up a 2008 GS500F a few months ago and have been lurking around this site for fixing-up and maintenance tips. When I went to change the brake fluid I discovered that one of the screws on the front reservoir cover was stuck and stripped. I'm about to go buy an EZ out to get it out, and was wondering what size screw I should get to replace it. I was hoping some of you GS gurus aren't too busy with your Labor Day weekend rides to throw some knowledge my way. Thanks for this awesome forum!

Don't know the size off hand but if you take your god screw to a Lowes/Home Depot type store you can find a match  :thumb:

#2
#4 size
coarse threads 0.7  (as opposed to fine threads 0.5)
About 10mm length

FYI: You should have your location in your profile. If someone is near you, you could pick one up. If you were in Seattle, you could visit the bike cave and pick one up and do other work. So where are you???

Thanks for the info. I'll try to pick one up at Home Depot, unless there's someone in the San Francisco bay area who has a spare. I've tried asking about screw sizes at my local Home Depot before. As soon as they see you're planning on spending about a quarter, they run away looking for someone to sell a power drill to  :icon_mrgreen: So it'll be good to know I'm looking for a #4 screw. It's the width that's harder to be sure about, I can just bring in the other screw and use it to eyeball the length and thread pitch.  :thumb:

Thanks. Just picked up the screws. In case the info would be useful to anyone else in the future, the size of these screws is #4x0.7x16mm. Fits perfectly.

So just double checking do you mean a #4 screw or a m4 screw?
Sometimes the hard way is the easiest way ;)
