So I kinda got caught up with some of my other custom work for other guys and took some time today to wrap one of my fairings in black 3M Di-NOC carbon fiber. Ive only done the one for now. I will do the other side next, then the headlight cowl and then the rear fairings. The windshield is getting chrome tint. Katana rims will be sent out to be chromed soon. All in all, it should be looking really good here soon.

I will be putting Suzuki stickers on the fairings BTW. But they will be custom cut here locally and reflective.

Pics here in the link and tell me what you think

Not installed yet. Next I have to powder coat the mesh that will got in the openings on the fairing. I have to them epoxy them in place and add my LED strips. Plus I've still got to have my decals made. Tomorrow I will wrap the other side.

I don't know - looking at the pictures and having "weedahoe" printed on all your fairings might detract. You could print gstwins.com or SUZUKI

(A joke for those that don't know my sense of humor)

Looks good ...a few questions.......Im curious to know the cost of wrapping that???  the time it took you?? ,and the difficulty for perfection on a 1-10 scale 1 being easiest?
-Thanks

Well the story behind the watermarking of the pics is this. The pics I take, I normally do not resize. I do custom work for guys all over the country and all by faith and word of mouth. So when my work is done, I take pics and leave in high resolution so they can see every detail. But if I post pics on Facebook where they are public, I have to resize them and watermark them. Yes, I have had phuckers steal my pics and claim it was their work so I had to start watermarking them

Cost in materials? About $200 to do the whole bike. How much would a shop local to you charge? IDK. I charge $20/hr as shop labor for my other work. This is actually the first time I've wrapped fairings.

Being 100 percent honest, if you haven't wrapped before, I would not suggest starting on something of this size. I'm using 2x3' sheets on the main fairings. That's $35 per fairing in Di-Noc material. Not counting cleaners, adhesive promoters, edge sealers, ect.

Difficulty to perfection is where the PITA comes in. Getting no air bubbles or wrinkles is the key.

So how many hours would it take you to wrap a GS500 fairing, tank and tail?

weedahoe

Keep in mind, every square inch of the fairing have to be absolutely clean and free from any dirt, grease, ect.

So the first thing to do is remove any stickers and wipe everything with denatured alcohol. Then I scrub them with a soapy solution. I use a nylon bristle brush or an old tooth brush. Then do the same thing with something like purple power. Then use a good wax and grease remover. Then a final inspection and run beads of 3M 94 adhesive promoter around any edge or opening. Once dry, I wet the fairing with RaipdTac and start the wrapping. The wrap itself on the fairing took me almost 2 hours. The prep before all that I guess another hour.

For that quality of work and time involved, IMO you should be charging more than $20/hr. That's a lot of really detail oriented work to only get $20 for! Looks great! Get some finished pics up when done!

Also, what part of the world do you call home? Might need someone to wrap my bike next!  :thumb:

Worm, I do a lot of true custom work in the car audio field. What I charge is literally 1/2 to 2/3 what a full audio shop charges so I not only do work for my own customers but also for several shops who our source work to me from time to time to save them both materials and labor. I know for a fact they resell my work to their customers but thats how money is made. They pay my bills so I dont say anything. But I do try to keep my costs low as an incentive to attract many customers.

Its going to be a bit before I can get ALL the pieces done but when I do I will certainly pull her out in the sun and take some pics. I have to admit Im excited myself.

I am in Albany GA by the way.
