problem with gs500 2008

have purchased a  gs500 2008 off a buddy and i noticed that before i stored it for the winter the bike starts up fine and will run great for a bit not lights or anything go off but after driving for a bit i start to lose power and if i don't really give it ti her she just dies straight away but when it is put in res the bike runs fine ?? what is wrong with it ? n

Fill up the tank.
