So my car died 2 months ago. It has been parked in the same place for 2 months. This morning, I woke up to a nice $40 parking ticket on the windshield. It says that I am parked 10 feet from the intersection, and that I am supposed to be 20 feet from it. I guess I can't dispute the ticket, I'm just pissed that one @$$hole cop decided to ticket me for such a ridiculous offense.

Cops are good or bad depending on the view of the beholder, if he writes you a ticket he's a bad cop, if he writes the guy who pulled out on front of you he's the good cop---same cop.. If the car was there that long he is responding to a complaint or several complaints, in that case he is required to write the ticket. Parking tickets to a road cop are "trash", meaning it doesn't count on your monthly stats, only meter maids get credit for those because that's all they do. It's true there are some @$$hole cops ( mostly Gung Ho rookies ), but for the most part we just want to get through the day/night in one piece and go home.

When did a cop ever write up someone for pulling out in front of you ... yes after you crash and they have driven away the cop would write you up for a broken turn signal after you wait 90 mins for the Idiots to show up.

The one and only time I saw a cop do something right before something wrong happened was when a few weeks ago this minivan made a left turn after her light turned red. Heck it was after my light went green on the perpendicular road. The cop was right behind the minivan who I guessed hadn't seen him. The cop put on his lights and followed the minivan and pulled em over. Bingo.

Cool.

Well, let's see, it happened to me once while riding my motorcycle, a guy cut me off on the expressway and almost killed me ( closest I ever came to an accident on a bike ) and a State trooper saw the whole thing. I'd like to have a dollar for every time I was on the other end of that scenario on duty and had people come by and thank me for being there. I've had lots of civilian observers ride with me for full 8 hour shifts and wonder out loud how I manage to put up with all the ass- holes I have to deal with on a daily basis----but then you wouldn't know about that.

My favorite citizen rant ( while I'm handing them a citation ) is "Where were you when someone was breaking into my house"?---Gosh, i'm not sure, where is your house? I only have to patrol a 40 square mile district, don't know how I missed being there when that took place. I also ask them, percentage wise how do you think deaths resulting from residential break-ins compare with traffic deaths.

By the way, before you blurt that tired worn out old cliché, the only time I ever, in 25 years, set foot in a donut shop was once while on probation riding with my field training officer.

Here in OH, most things that drive me up the wall like texting and driving, etc. are secondary violations, which means that you have to be pulled over for something else FIRST, then be cited for something else, like texting.

80% of cars that I pass on the road have drivers actively texting, or gibber-jabbering on the phone.  Is it REALLY that important?  Most of the time, no.

Following too closely is something heavily monitored here, I know that for sure.

Cops are doing their job. If there is an increase in X and some real high up is moaning about it. It hits the commissioner's desk and get passed all the way down to the cop on the street who is told to enforce X. As that is who we deal with we pass our frustration on to them. It's not personal, it's their job. Your job is different. Nothing more.

Perhaps I should elaborate. I live just off of Tulane University's campus, and the TUPD just got its jurisdiction expanded into my neighborhood. NOPD was fine with my car there, but the bored TU cops just walk around writing parking tickets. I agree not all cops are bad, I've had some pleasant conversations with them before, but a large number of Tulane cops are power hungry jerks that get off on inconveniencing others and are just plain rude.

devils advocate, but how would you feel if a moto rider was SMIDSY'd because you car being too close to the intersection interfered with other road user's views of the intersection?  I reckon you're lucky it wasn't towed, $40 is a cheap warning to move it.

I was going to say something similar.  There is a reason that there a law against parking at an intersection.  I'm sure you would be cursing the guy who did what you did if you had crashed into his car while trying to turn.

There are cars that park way too close to the intersection of the road I live on.  It's extremely annoying and dangerous.  I'd love it if a cop would write them a ticket.

I was half on the curb (in my yard), it was very easy to see around me. It is a very squat car.

Could you see a small child walking on the into the intersection over your very squat car?  There are reasons for the laws.  If you get caught breaking a law, you have very little to complain about.  You can complain about the validity of the law, or whether there is sufficient public awareness of the law, but not the cop who enforced it.  Take responsibility for your own actions.  $40 dollars is not a big deal.

gsatterw

look, youre just gonna have to take my word for it, there was no safety concern. Trust me, the law doesnt exist to protect little kids from walking into roads. I think anyone would be pissed if they woke up to $40 being plucked out of their pocket. The law is ridiculous. it exists to facilitate turning onto roads that are very narrow and have parking on both sides of the road. The road the car was on is unusually wide for new orleans, and there are no parking signs that line the opposite side of the road. Can't I just be pissed about this? You would be too if your car that had been happily parked for 2 months was molested by a $40 ticket.

local law enforcement here state " theyre not bound by a quota system" but i wonder sometimes. but id agree to the complaints, someone somewhere said something. or cops paid attn. to the same vehicle. my vehicles are on the road but since this section is a private drive it doesnt matter. but ive got to move the vic. because if the little house catches fire the car car block the truck. anyhoo in your case id say, cops were watching, and or someone kept saying something

I feel your pain with campus PD. Up here in Monroe at ULM, the cops try to ticket me when I park in this spot that's on campus but doesn't belong to campus.

You can't park in the grass!

Oh, well, this isn't your property, let me speak to your Captain.

Out of the 20+ tickets I've gotten, all of them have been dismissed when their boss told them that wasn't their jurisdiction.

Parked half on and half off the road and too close to the intersection? Where I live you would have either....

1 - have been towed
2 - been hit with a sticker to remove car within X hours or it will be towed
3 - hit with a parking infringement notice
4 - number 1 and 3 combined

You did the wrong thing. You know it. Are pissed for getting busted. I think you've learned a lesson.

LMAO around here, 24 hour tow notices. orange for warning, followed by green for " take it" for whomever is towing that day. basically if i were to see a green sticker , id have to bust my arse to move the vehicle quickly
