What a nice week...

...it's been here in the Northeast.  Now that I don't have school to deal with, I've been able to get out on the roads and go riding :) It helps that I finally got my MSF paperwork (after 10 weeks!) so I can ride legally.

Last couple of days, I've been riding around the back roads looking for beaches to stop at.  Not sure what's colder... the wind on the motorcycle or the wind while stopped at the beach!  I'm glad I didn't put my bike up for the winter :)  The beach is spectacular without all the people around!

Good and bad things:
Found out my friend's boyfriend has an R6 and wants to get together to ride and work on my bike.
Roads to the beaches have a general lack of cars
Roads to the beaches have sand, potholes, and otherwise poor surface conditions.  A steep downhill section littered with that stuff is not fun!
Which leads to - the fact that I corner like a toddler on a tricycle.  I've got no confidence going into the turns at all :(
What's up with cars trying to pass me?  I'm doing the usual 5-15 over the speed limit (honestly!), isn't that fast enough?  Jackasses are trying to go around me at intersections or even double yellow lines.  Those two cars wouldn't have pulled that crap if I was in a car! :x  I'm just out for the ride, not to go fast.

Not on a twisty road with sand and stuff in the corners... I'd have some SUV up my butt and get me going too fast into an uncertain corner  :o  Though I did go and twist the throttle when I saw the guy cross the double yellow on the left.  He turned at the next intersection, otherwise I would have let him pass when I stopped next.

Riding my motorcycle gives me an excuse to go out and explore new places :) good enough reason!

Don't forget to compensate for the badly calibrated GS 500 speedometer. With stock front tires its about 9% fast. So when it says you're doing 65, you're doing closer to 58-59.

Beyond that, well, people are idiots and they're trying to kill you.  :dunno:

Roads to the beaches also have a lack of cops in the winter! If the wind isn't bad you can really get movin' over the bridge too - where there is NO law enforcement! It is a beautiful ride in the winter. Are you in Nassau or Suffolk? I grew up on the Island and have taken many a wild ride over the Robert Moses bridge. Good stuff!
