I see you have 20w fork oil rather than progressive springs. Is this recommended as a cheaper alternative for the road or is it too hard a ride?

whatever you do, dont do like i did. i bought 5w fork oil, waaaaaaaay toooooooooo soffffffffft :x but could find any other weights, i will have to change that though :dunno:

The forks on the 89 are stock mush. The original owner did put spacers in.
The fork seals were starting to leak.
I had bought some different weights of fork oil (15-20). Thought I'd try them on my friends GS he raced. He ended up buying forks tricked out by Lindemann, so I had them sitting around.
The 20 wt slowed the leak at the seals and really improved the damping.
Slowed the action a bit, so it wasn't so bouncy.
May be hard to find 20wt. I was surprised when I saw it  :o

I'm going with Race Tech (.85) springs and Emulators next. Not sure what weight oil yet, but it won't need 20wt.

For the stock GS forks, I'd go with 15wt minimum. 20wt if you can find it

Im running Progressives, Gold emulators and 20w,  the springs and emulators were from prev owner, i had 15w on first seal change. still felt soft to me, but then he has emulators setup for a slightly lighter rider weight.  once i put the 20w in, i was happy as alittle clam.  i will have to look up how to adjust the emulators and then try different oils. then again, the 20w might be why i keep blowing seals every 6 months.  found burs last time, still waiting to see when they go again.

This isn't really about springs, more about Bobs race bike. Check it out in the wall of fame. Pretty rediculis. Nice work on the oil cooler, belly pan, head oiler, etc...etc...
