Bike bogging on hard acceleration

Hi all

First post as this has been my first problem - so Ola to all :)

My gs500 is an 05 model - with 28,000 miles ish. Currently its bogging down at high rpm's in first and second gear only. It only boggs down under hard acceleration and it only boggs down for about a second (as if throttle is suddenly closed) and then continues to accelerate all the way to redline.

I can't see this as a fuel issue otherwise it wouldn't eventually reach the redline (not that i constantly redline the bike just explaining the problem occours and then vanishes). I can only see this as a air starvation issue ? in which case a new air filter is on order.

The bike hasn't got any engine or performance modifications. Unfortunatly i can't really get into the carbs to clean as the previous owner has annoyingly stripped the cross head screws that hold it together so i can't get to the jets -.-

Thanks for taking the time to read this guys

Try running a can of SeaFoam through the tank of gas. That may help clean up some of the gunk that might be in the carbs.

Check air filter. If in doubt, put in a new one. Could be lack of air.

Look at the plugs. See if running lean, rich or OK. That information will help diagnose the problem.

I have found plugs make a difference (a few disagree on this topic). My bikes used to exhibit a little of what you describe until I switched to Brisk plugs. Now I get a smooth acceleration curve without that momentary drop. I still have it on one project bike but haven't started work on it and have not changed plugs yet.
