'94 Front Sprocket NOT Flanged!?!

So, I ordered a 15t front sprocket going by JT's online fitment guide. I pull off the OEM 16t front sprocket......NO flange! Even going by the Wiki it says that the front on the '94 is flanged. It seems I ordered the wrong one. This bike must be a very early '94. It has a build date of 4/93. Can a flanged front sprocket be used on a GS that did not have one to begin with?

sledge

No.......the wider boss will cover the circlip groove.

Great.....wtf. I love having a bastard version of something. Well, at least it was only $11. Heck, the 565 version is only $9........it's only money, right? LOL

Or you bike is a '93 and you didn't know it.  Or could be that just the engine is from a '93.

The title states 1994, the tag under the set says 1994 and the VIN comes back a 1994. The bike only has 4400 miles on it. I am the second owner and I have personally know the previous owner for many years.

Must be one of those transition year things then.

...or sombody replaced it wrong once already?

Try the boss-ed sprocket - if you can get the circlip on, it's the right sprocket, and the one on there was wrong.

If not, you may have a replacement motor from '89-93, or a "transition year issue" as suggested.

Excellent point...

The circlip was tight up against the sprocket and in turn the sprocket was tight up against the back of the shaft. Oh well, I'll try the 516 when it shows up today. If that does not fit I'll just order up the 565.

I actually thought about grinding off the flange but did not want to upset the balance even though it is a small diameter. That, or mess up the hardening if it is.
