Anyone happen to know what size socket will fit on an oversized oil drain plug?

If you mean the usual, but still really big, drain plug, it's 21mm.

Edit: after reading the next post, I'll add that the 21mm is from a '95 500E.

My 97 had a 21 mm hex and an old 13/16" spark plug socket fit it nice and snug.  My 02 has a 17 mm hex oil plug.

And the award for the most random question goes to.........

Measure the head across the flats and it will all become clear  :thumb:

If the sump plug is rounded off or damaged there's a couple of tricks you can try.
The bolt is metric, so try using a fractionally smaller imperial socket and hammering it on.
Use a file to clean up the hex flats.
Please use a socket or ring spanner only.

And if the OP carcks the sump in the process of hammering the socket on he wont be very happy...... but its his gamble.

If the plugs has rounded off I would use Stilsons or pipe-grips on it, the more you pull the tighter the grip with zero chance of damaging anything. Just get someone to sit on the bike and weight it down at the same time

Like these.....
