So I laid my 08F down today. Less than 5 miles an hour and managed to keep my leg under it. No damage to the fairing or as much as a scratch of paint on it. But it started leaking some fluid after i picked it up. I didn't get to check out what it was because the guy going the wrong way down the alley that i braked for didn't look like he was gonna slow down for me at all. Needless to day, I'm not gonna start it until I get it into a garage. I'm so sad now

That is a good kind of drop. Bike's unscratched your are not hurt. Don't be sad.

The only fluids that can leak out of the gs from a drop is oil or gas. My bet is its oil out of the breather/airbox.

This RickM agrees with that RickM

yeah checked it out with a friend who is a mechanic at a harley dealership. we checked the oil and the crank case and all that stuff. he told me to turn it over, the check engine light was on for about 5 seconds and then went off. so all is well i guess!

You did check and constantly check the oil level though right?

Also check battery fluid level - that can also leak out (hopefully down the correct tube) if you are not using a sealed battery. Rinsing off the frame near the end of that tube will help avoid rust if some acid did leak out.

when I dropped the bandit a few weeks back (static clumsy drop), I saw a tell tale oil patch on the road at the drop site.  try as I might I could not find the oil leak anywhere on the bike.  then I realised the oil was there from some one/thing else, I just happened to be in the wrong place. :technical:

I've always heard there's 2 types of riders, those that have laid it down, and those that will. Now that you have, you're clearly all set to ride into the sunset and not worry about it! (Don't theories make you feel wonderful?)

Am I understanding correctly that you intentionally kept your leg under the bike?

Yes. Legs heal, plastics don't.

chicks dig scars as they say.  but really a piece of plastic is cheaper and quicker than an orthopedic surgeon reconstructing your leg.

yes, I have my fair share, but never to sacrifice me for the sake of machinery.  they are all mostly me making contact with hard immovable surfaces or objects. :icon_sad:

crashed, not "laid her down". laying a bike down is the worst form of stopping ever. crashing is inevitable, laying it down, is dumb.
