Hi everyone,
I have a dented up tank that I want to repair. I drained most of the gas out but there seems to be some that just wont come out! I removed the petcock, I tip it, spin it, shake it. but I can still hear some sloshing around in there. Are there baffles or a double wall in that tank?. And is it made of steel? It's awfully light .  anyone have simular experience?
thanks in advance

i got the same problem...i think the only way to get it out is to get a small hose and suck on it

if anyone knows a better way, please tell us because i don't like to dring old gas

Yep, it's steel, but pretty thin which is one reason it rusts out so easily. Magnets don't stick to aluminum, and they don't make aluminum tanks for low cost bikes.

It must have baffles in  it - hard to see exactly. I think the best way to get the last fuel out is rags attached to the end of a coat hanger.

I think they sell little hand operated siphon pumps at the local auto parts or hardware store.  I have one of those... just squeeze the bulb and get the gas out... and it is a lot more convenient than sniffing fumes if you don't put it in the gas.   I'd definitely let the tank air out a while to let the rest evaporate.

I'm not sure the tank has baffles.  I hope the tank didn't perforate and you have water or gas between the tank walls!  :(

There is only one tank wall, so there is no where for water or gas to get trapped. There are no baffles either, just checked mine out. Seems a bit of gas just won't drain because of the weird shape of the battom of the tank.

I don't think you are going to get enough to collect in one spot to use a siphon or a pump. A rag on a coat hanger works pretty good.

I Let my tank sit outside on the back porch for a few days and the gas simply evaporated out of it.  This is a surefire way to get all the gas out.  I would recomend that after you fix your tank you treat the inside with the Kreme system or some variant on that.
Must go faster!

Yes rags and coat hanger work best, so is evaporating and to speed it up you can send a car exhaust into it, or filling with hot hot water, but then you have water inside instead of gas... which in effect is a bit easier to deal with if you are cutting it etc...
The GS tank may be thin compared to boiler plate but as tanks go, even old 80's bikes tanks it is very thick walled. Dont even compare it to the newer GSXR's or even katana's. There is no baffle inside it either. Its got the 2 metal tubes running vertical from the filler mouth area, and one with the rollover valve on the vent line to the bottom on a CA tank, and I guess 1 on a non ca tank from the filler mouth to the bottom. How are you repairing it BTW. I sliced mine open from the bottom and pushed out some dents from the inside, but they were simple smooth un broken paint type dents.
Cool.
