petcock falling apart

So I was riding (luckily) close to home and the barb that holds the main fuel line into the peckcock just fell off.  This of course led to gas pouring out.  I pushed it back in and it sort of stays, but I'm sure it will fall out with vibrations again.  What holds this in?

Ebay shows them priced for anywhere from $50 to $100 and I really rather not pay that.

It is press fit.
If you were to remove it or have the tank off, you could tap it back in --- carefully. I'd clean the surfaces first then slightly roughen up the end that goes in the petcock for better grip. (been there - had one come out when removing a fuel line)

Drain the gas before working on it. The surfaces must be dry when you tap it back in.

would it be terrible if I put a bit of JB weld on it before pressing it back in?

Loctite would be more appropriate.

Remember it is a PRESS FIT. Glue does not hold it in and most glues would soften when exposed to gasoline.
Your small plastic tipped hammer is your best friend.

Any glues in there may help but they risk creating a filmy coating preventing a good press fit.

I pressed it in with a few taps from a small ball peen hammer.  I took it for a short ride around the neighbor hood and it did not fall back out.  Thanks for the input guys!  :thumb:
