So far "remover" is the only word that has anything to do with this little thingy.

codajastal

I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

blackhead remover. Place the Tube over the blackhead, pull back on the red knob and the created vacuum sucks that blackhead right out.

Hint:
A rarely used or even owned tool for electronics. Most often used in fixing a mistake.
Without one, you'd often go "Damn - now how am I going to fix that?" while with it, "I'll just remove it and put it where it should have been" as opposed to "Dang - I'll have to throw it away and start over".

If no one gets it by midnight, I'll tell you and post a different thingy (or is it spelled "thingie"?)

And for Huff1371: it is not used on cats.

Yep, that's what I was describing. I'm guessing there are probably proprietary ones that vary so you have to buy theirs.

This one linked below is like the one I have seen before.

Correct.  It can remove the male or female pins. The sleeve goes down to press in the retaining tabs then the main shaft pushes the pin out. You need a different diameter one for different sizes of pins. I don't find anything proprietary about them. You just need one of the correct diameter.

ryott52

Wow, that would have made my job in high school so much easier. I would just use a tiny flathead screwdriver to press down the retaining tabs on each side.

Doh, I should known, I got a collection of them  :cookoo:

Is it an electronically adjusted mount for a lens or other optical equipment?

Guess that was short lived...
Because that's what it does. Rotates samples for an NIR Spectrometer. The particular machine this thingy comes from is linked below.

Well you did leave the label with some 'serial' numbers on it easily visible!!!

bombsquad83

I didn't look up the serial number.  I used to work in an optical physics lab.  Took me a few minutes of looking and thinking to get it.

Give me a minute to post something.
