I had already picked that up from your earlier comments  ;)

What has me tripped up are the 3 "v"s one in each color. And are the colors important? Green, Red, and Yellow seems like something electrical.

Be aware, this is not very wise advise!

Elmojo

I'm honestly not sure what the V's are for. It's not electrical at all.
In fact, the entire device uses no electric at all.

What needs to be aimed? ... a shark with a frickin laser on its head!!

Kiwingenuity

Some part of a projector / enlarger?

Slack

no, no electricity.
A crossbow!

Nope to all, but I LOVE the laser shark idea!  :woohoo:
Ok, another hint....
What type of product would you use, that needs to be aimed to work properly, and that you'd care about different sizes of "sighting"?
This is really obvious when you see it, but you need to be older than about 45 years old, or a bit of a historical equipment buff to recognize it.
It was made in the US, by one of the true "classic American" companies.
Don't get too hung up on that last part, it's just a minor hint....

Elmojo

Kinda sorta....not exactly distance, but something that changes with distance.

Janx101

Perspective changes....
perceived size changes....

Women changes!! ... at 100 yards you can see a damsel in distress!.... at 10 yards you can see an old harridan screaming at her imaginary friends!

.....

Part of surveyors sighting gear maybe?

Elmojo

DDW - Distance Does Wonders  :D
Not for surveying, but very close.
It's not a "tool" per se, but it is a piece of equipment.
Just mostly for recreation, or at least it was. Pretty much no one uses these any more, since the supplies it requires are difficult to obtain.... (hint hint)

Janx101

It measures boobies at a distance?! ... weird!.... I prefer measure up close!.... but as you say they can be difficult to obtain! :D

Elmojo

Oddly enough, you could use it for that!
I agree, though, closer is better...  :icon_twisted:
So guys are really close.
It's not a measurement tool, though.
In fact, it's not really a "tool" at all, at least for most people.
It's old, not something you can go out and buy new, although there are products that serve the same purpose.

An analog camera, or a visor for one?

Elmojo

Close enough!
It's a flip-up viewfinder for a Kodak Brownie 8mm video camera.
The camera itself is broken, but I'm thinking of using the lenses for a project.
Good job axe, take it away!

axexandru

Elmojo, I would love to see the whole thing :)

Here is mine, sorry for the bad quality, and bad editing:

Elmojo

Hot shoe mount for a camera?
Of course, based on image quality, it could be Sasquatch! lol
I'll post a photo of mine shortly, waiting for the image to upload...
