True idiots will inadvertently bypass all idiotproofing. It's a talent, really.

Kiwingenuity

Well.. that is all true, part of the weeding out process is applied to identify the idiots and stop them getting into these installations to start with...

We also have a nice checklist we usually use when one person does the key thing, they call it to another person who calls it back.  So you actually need to have let 2 idiots in the building..

Odds are minimal then. hadnt seen a setup like this in a LONG time. never did ask what it was for. ( never did see anyone use it either )

It is a motorcycle aftermarket "thingie"

Janx101

the thing is sitting above the table surface ... so i am thinking collar extending from/part of the internal 'theoretical' screw thread .. so when it would be tightened up the collar would be within a corresponding sunken gallery and the main outer edge of the thing would be flush on the surface ... if that makes sense  :dunno_black:

yamahonkawazuki

agreed. ill take a stab at it and say to me it looks like a decorate nut for a trim piece. not really large enough to be structural or hold a load. a trim screw/nut if you will. just enough room internally for a small screw to go into.

There you go. Its an aftermarket tappet cover. Older Honda's have access oles to adjust the valves. Also fits the oil filler on some  shaft drive bikes.
