But really, those are not effective long term measures. Teaching children it is wrong to infringe upon the property rights of others is where it starts.

Agreed. But don't you think he already knows not to steal and that it belongs to someone else? Of course be does. Some people just don't care.

Insurance adjuster saw it today. Cost of damages including labor and taxes.....

$9,912.

He is waiting to hear back from geico, but it's almost guaranteed to be a total loss.

Goodbye, Black Waffle/Thestral. =(

wow, that's gotta be damn near the price of the bike. PS: xunedeinx, congrats on 1000 posts

Yes, he does know better. But smacking him on the butt for being a bad boy is not a solution. Does not good. Over time, the problem is solved by teaching from the very young that it is wrong to infringe upon the property rights of others - but - this will never happen because the govt is the biggest infringer and so on it travels to the bottom of the social order.

The current system teaches them that nothing really that bad happens to them. Point was to stop it before it got that far. That takes a long time maybe even a generation or two.

12 and change for the bike. Pretty close, indeed.

That will get you 5 good GS500's. Or 3 and enough to spiff them up with some cool add-ons.

My 2 cents...

Get a 500cc bike for a while.  Your insurance rates are going to skyrocket since you have had 2 claims within a year.  Not your fault per se, but they will consider you a high risk.

+1 on the CB500.  Or just buy a used GS500 and drive it like it's stolen (too soon?)
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

xunedeinx

The money I get back will pay off the financing. Nothing in pocket I don't think. Starting from scratch here, so no 5 gs's :(

jestercinti

Just save up, buy a used GS, mod the hell out of it, and just get liability insurance.

That's what I would do.

Thinking of it. I have a gs set of plastics, a 636 swingarm, and some random bolts...

This could turn into something!

Thinking of a GS, with a 2ed gen SV650 tail, undertail exhaust, and...

bah, too many ideas.

xunedeinx

Its official, total loss. 82,6% the cost of the bike.

So my question is how are the authorities/DA going to proceed criminally with a 12K loss

There's a warrant out for his arrest for violating probation back in 2009, and some other things the officer couldn't tell me due to it being an open case.

hopefully they throw his ass back in prison, but, who knows?
