Hey whats up every one.  im devan. from austin texas.  just got my first gs500 this morning. got a hell of a deal on it and is super clean. its a 1994 with 22k miles (like i said its a texas bike) i will post pics later today when it clears up outside.   this isnt my first bike.  ive always been on liter bikes since i was 16.  but fell on some tough times this past year and currently getting back on my feet n saw this bike n picked it up cheap.
so any ways.........  possibly project but dont know anything about these bikes.   its a 94.  i heard you can fit fairings on it which i really want to do. (i am not a fan of naked bikes.)  and then i want as much power out of the motor as possible.  BUT THE REASON IM POSTING IS TO GET TIPS N IDEAS FROM ALL YALL GS500 GURU'S. like i said ill have pics later.

Well  like i pomised  here are the pics              SORRY THE PICS ARE SO CRAPPY  MY CAMERA PHONE SUCKS

Fairings are possible if you take the time to buy them and the brackets needed to put them on the bike. With that being said, the E model does not have predrilled holes in the frame for them so you would need to do that also. I would look at trying to acquire an F frame with a title from someone here or ebay as it would just make things easier. Or look for a parts bike being parted out. Keep what you need and sell the rest to recoup.

its easy to drop an engine out of a gs. once tank is removed, that side frame with the bolts you remove those, lay the bike on its side, on a mattress. ( not to be reused btw :). remove cables, and mounting bolts elsewhere. and chain, and lift frame up, engine stays put. theyre quite easy to work on and re gear. NOW, ive ridden and owned litre bikes. myself. but love the gs. and will always. they can out corner a litre bike, ( wiht a good rider) but cannot outrun them. you can re gear a gs. i went down as far as a 14t front sprocket. damn it was jumpy and responsive. kept revs higher @ hwy speed. you can get a k@n lunchbox filter, and exhaust , rejet carb, ( easy to do) btw check with adidasguy here. hes our resident parts whore lol. btw welcome, im looking fwd tothe pics too. ive had a couple 94 gs'

Probably a lack of weight. Best I got

GS500F - Curb Mass    199 Kg (439 Lbs)
GSXR 100 - Curb Weight   203 kg (448 lbs)
Kawasaki ZX10r - Curb Weight 436.6 lbs
Yamaha R1 - Wet Weight***   454 lb
Z1000 - Curb Weight 481 lbs.

Ive only ridden the GS500, my current Z1000 and a zx10r.

My z1000 is for sure the heaviest I can feel the 40 pounds there, but that zx10r felt like 100 pounds extremely agile bike. If you ever think of purchasing a liter bike test ride a zx10r

well, best explanation ive got, ( besides weight) is that the gs will when riding with litre bikes, come into a corner @ nearly full power, not having to scrub off much of its speed. and will leave corner with afull head of steam. ) that IS however dependant on the skill of the rider. even with gp class rider it will still get wtfpwned on the straights or gradual sweepers.
