Oil Leak from Gear Selector

Hey Guys,

just curious as too if anyone has changes this seal/gasket before. Basically, after I turn the bike off, 10 minutes later a sufficient oil puddle has formed. I've located the leak to be coming from where the gear selector enters the engine. (Yes I said engine, I'm a novice  )

Would #21 be the oil seal I'm looking to replace?

I guess if I get involved in changing this seal, I might as well change the friction plates. The bike has about 42,000 miles on it and can be a pain to get into first and sometimes even nuetral!

Part #21 is the seal for the clutch pushrod. Is this what you meant, or is your leak around the gear select lever?

The gear lever also has an oil seal: part #29 on http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/model_years/4129-suzuki-2005--gs500f/assemblies/124934-gear-shifting

You might want to take a look at a similar thread (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=62164.0).  I have the pushrod seal, but haven't put it on yet. From that thread, another member replaced the seal, and it doesn't look to be too difficult.

I checked out your thread. That is a lot of things to check I didn't even think about. I was pretty confident it is coming from the oil seal for the gear selector. I think I will do as you did just to be sure oil isn't leaking from anywhere else.

Done it before on an old GS450.  It was a pain because it was old and screwed up.  Took me several hours with a hook and pick set to fish the old one out.
