Late model controls on a '96?

I'm replacing my '96 GS500E handlebars with some eBay clubmans, and I thought '03-'09 handlebar switches would look better than the originals.
Has anybody tried this mod before? I don't mind rewiring to make it work, more concerned with if it'll actually fit and stay on

The fit is  the same. The connectors are different.
89-00 have the same connectors (except for the clutch switch in early models).
2001-2002 are different
2004-present the LEFT is the same
2004-2005 right same
2006+ changed again because the headlight went through the starter button to kill the headlight when starting the bike for more starting power.

2001+ has a dual throttle cable but that is OK to use just the 1 cable for your carbs.

So you will have to rewire and change connectors.

The fitting on the bars is the same.

Adidiasguy, are you saying the connectors are the same on those specific years or the fit is? Ex: you mentioned left side 2004-present is the same.
If the connectors are the same for any of the newer years I'll just find those specific year switches to avoid the rewire.
