Windshields & Pegs????

Hello there. I got my first bike last month...a 2001 GS500 Black (no decals) only 7800km!! (4850 miles)

I'm from Toronto Canada and got to ride the first 2 weeks of December!! It's freezing now and looking at a few upgrades and looking for help/advice...

I'm looking for a windshield. Nothing goofy. Good protection.

either...
- F16 Sport Windshield Dark/Black Tint
- GIVI 240 A Windscreen Black (Also if anyone has one...does it say "GIVI" on the front??? Some pics show without/ some with)
Anyone have these? How are they? Any other suggestions in similar styles???

Also need to replace my front pegs. The last owner changed to a sport peg with no springs...so they flick up and down easy...
Anyone have any luck with nice (not crazy $$$) pegs for the GS500??

Cheers!!
Paul

Mechmech

I'm using the F16. It looks good on the bike, doesn't wobble much (thinking of putting some foam tape under it to stop that), and stops the wind going to my chest/neck.

As for footpegs, OEM for life :P

You should post pictures of your sports pegs, in case some one wants to buy them off of you :)

Thanks for the pic of the F16. The wobble factor got me to thinking the GIVI 240 A would be more stable. It requires a mounting kit which makes me think it'll be more solid than just a headlight mount.

The F16 looks great by the way!!!

I would post pics of the Sport Pegs BUT the were ground down to fit the GS500. They came from a GIXXER I believe. I don't see they would be of any use to anyone...

Cheers

What about putting stock pegs back on? Parts whores on this board have lots of stock  pegs laying around.

GS Paul

Might have to do the stock peg thing. I was just thinking the sport ones look good...if they fit.

If you like the sportier look rather than the old rubber peg look, you might like some of the aftermarket pegs that these people get. I am pretty sure they just go right into the stock bracket.

Instead of starting a whole new thread, does anyone know where to get some of those nice looking after market aluminum pegs that are like a hollow half circle?

I'll trade you my stock pegs for your aftermarket pegs. I dislike these big rubber things

West Seattle GS500 Bike Cave?

jacob92icu

You got those Adidas?

And Gs Paul, i was just informed that stock gsxr pegs will work with minimal effort, just one extra washer and they fit like stock.

There are a few different ones. this place is a magnet for parts. Also plenty of stock pegs.
LSL makes peg mounts & pegs for GS500's. You buy the mount then select the peg you want.

I am very jealous of your bike cave

some of us more unfortunate folk have to buy our stuff and don't have stock piles of the good stuff in our garage called bike cave..

Lots of stuff gets here through donation or trade. Sort of take-a-part then leave-a-part. Or do work and leave your extra stuff for someone else. Some people know we work pretty much co-op style so I get parts offered by members for very little - stuff someone could use but they don't need any more. One local sold his GS500 and dropped off all his extra GS stuff for others to use. Actually a couple that had used the Bike Cave have done that to return the favor for others.

Haha yea i know, I'm just teasing. you know I'm eventually going to make it over there! :woohoo:

Thanks. Everyone.
Mustang?? Is that your bike in the photo? If so ...what's the size of that rear tire? Looks wider than my frame would allow. (Also if I find other pegs...these are yours. I do want to avoid the rubbers though)

****Bridgestone Battlax*****??????? Is that the best tire for the GS500?

Brace yourself. The move to the TF is imminent.  :icon_rolleyes:

If  you're talking about my avatar picture, with the yellow wheels, that one is mine. At the time it had a 140/70 Kenda Cruiser ST on it, fit like a glove. I've since replaced it with a 130, but only because it's what was in stock after 140 blew out hitting an on ramp.

I have the rubber pegs as well... they're just way too big lol I was hoping you wanted them. Guess I'll go whore them out elsewhere

I have the same windshield as MechMech, in fact our bikes look very similar, maybe same year.  The F16 was inexpensive and helped a lot with getting wind off my chest.  Unfortunately, it sends the wind into my face making for lots of wind noise in the helmet.  Also, the kit to attach the F16 holds it in place quite well but if it isn't adjusted just right, I get a wicked vibration noise where it contacts the headlight chrome rim.

I find a Spitfire shield just right for summer riding and a big Plexi 2 much better for winter riding here in NE Ohio.  Been switching them twice a year:

407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.
