Where does this hose go???

For the life of me, I cannot figue out where this hose goes?  This is on a 2006 F (all stock) and it routes through a hose clamp on the battery box (see pic) and terminates on the right side of the swing arm.  It has to be a drain hose, but I can't figure out what for.  I pulled out the airbox and carbs recently to rejet, but I guess I overlooked this when putting everything back together.  Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

I can't say for sure but it looks like the battery overflow hose.  My best guess.

Battery overflow/drain hose. There should be a spot on your battery for it.

I still don't see an attachment point for it, but oh well.  I'm working under the impression that this isn't critcal, but correct me if I am wrong.

The hose looks like it's going down.

No, to me it looks like it is coming up.

The connection for the battery drain hose should just be right under the lid, it will be a little nipple on the side of the battery. The hose could, but most likely not, be a very long version of the breather hose designed to go down behind your airbox from the top of the head under the gas tank.

Only reason I'm skeptical towards saying it is definitely the battery drain/overflow hose is because most are clear, and not that long.

My battery drain hose is like that... found a pic from Kerry awhile back shows where it is supposed to be routed next to the airbox drain hose.

Edit: I'll add that the other shown here is probably the tank overflow, but I have all three secured down in this location.

Yea see, thats what I was thinking it might be, the airbox drain hose. It could still be the battery drain hose though. Im thinking that it could be the hose for the breather on top of the head too though.

Airbox drain: bigger hose with the peeeenis thingy on the end
Crankcase breather hose: Goes to airbox and is a large, very short hose.
Tank drain hose: same size, but routed between carbs then down to where the airbox drain goes at lower right, back part of engine and in a clamp to one of the engine casing bolts.
Battery Drain: Only one clamped to the battery box. Sometimes routed down and back so acid doesn't get on the bike or your feet. Sometimes just routed straight down, but lower than the other drains. Sometimes routed down and clamped with the airbox & tank vent hoses.

It is the battery drain hose. Look in that area. You don't see any other hoses. Therefore you don't have some other hose as the battery drain. Connect to the battery drain thingy on the battery.

Clear hose for the drain is not OEM. Aftermarket hoses sometimes bought with a battery could be clear. The OEM, original is black.

I was in the process of typing hose descriptions.. but you finished first, adidasguy.

So the acid doesn't burn your foot off while riding  :thumb:

Though, its not very likely to happen with how I have mine secured down... mentioning that makes me want to change my battery drain location...

Or get a battery that doesn't need a drain? Think of the added weight of the drain hose and wind resistance. Probably would add 0.0003 hp if you didn't have a drain hose.

jacob92icu

C'mon Adidas, its got to be at least 0.0004 extra hp

Ah.  I have a Duralast battery from the PO, so there is no nipple on this battery.  Mystery solved thanks to the pic posted of the stock battery!  Thanks for the help!

jacob92icu

Rahh! You should leave the stock battery drain house out at least hold on to it just in case you decide to go back to it.
