Suicide kickstand fix?

If you look at my '01 the wrong way it wants to fall over. The side stand looks to be too straight up and down. Perhaps this will be resolved when I do front springs and R6 shock, but is there any solution for this issue?

Do you have lowering links on your bike by any chance?
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Check links first.  Stock links are 7 1/16" between hole centers.  Also check to see if the front was lowered, the fork tube tops should be flush with the top plate that holds bars.

Will check, but I have no reason to think it is lowered.

The bike leans over plenty when on the side stand, that's not the problem. The problem is that if you push the bike forward ever so slightly it will cause the stand to fold up and the bike to go down. When on the stand, the stand is on a hair trigger and any movement will cause it to fold.

You are parking it in gear and not in neutral right? Also, you are turning the wheel to the left all the way also right?

Yes. Check my signature. I didn't just start riding yesterday, lol.

Perhaps it's just that the stock suspension is that sacked out.

I have owned tons of tools and machinery in my lifetime, that doesnt mean I use them every day or remember everything all the time. Thing happen sometimes. Thats life. If you have owned so many bikes already, figuring out if you have enough lean angle or why it wants to fall shouldnt be hard right? ;)

Honestly, with any bike, if the kickstand folds up to the rear and you push the bike forward while on the stand, its going to fold up. Thats just the mechanical nature of it.

You could always chock the wheels ;)

I've ridden other bikes in the past that had "hair trigger" side stands. In some cases there were fixes for them, like modifying pivot points, springs, etc.

Do other people have the same problem as I? If so, do any such mods exist for this bike? If not, then perhaps it is an issue with my suspension like previous mentioned and I'll look into it.

Thanks.

The side stand has 2 springs - one inside the other. It is sounding like there is one spring only, or one of them is broken or cam off. Check if you have both springs. I have plenty if you need them.

Thanks for the numbers. I just measured and the rear links are stock. The front fork tubes (the tubes, not the rubber caps) are 2.5mm above the triples.

Thanks for the info and offer, but both springs are there. The suspension is beyond soft and perhaps it's just that the bike is sitting too low. The guy I bought it from was a pretty big dude. I guess I'll be doing the rear shock and front springs sooner than I thought :)

Make sure there is nothing blocking the kickstand going to its full, outstretched angle.  Here is a pic of what that area/angle should look like.

I'll add that my bike will slide forward without the kickstand folding up (kickstand just slides along the ground) unless it were hit quickly or the end of the stand gets caught on something (like if it sunk into the ground a bit).

The link below shows the stock fork position in the top triple for reference.

Do front springs first. That will make the most noticeable improvement in riding.

Go measure the Length of your sidestand.

My stock sidestand is 260mm. That is 10.24 inches. From foot to center of the pivot bolt in see in BockinBboy's pic.

Sounds like you have a cut off kickstand, maybe a previous owner had lowering links on that bike and put stock ones back on before selling it.  Can probably find a stock one on e-bay cheap.  Installing the new front springs and rear shock will only make the situation worse.  I've got use to parking mine in gear all day putting it back in neutral only when I put it away for next morning starting.
