Hey guys, The guy who sold me my GS500 had taken off the controls and I am left with no choke lever. If anyone have just a choke lever (and the little black piece that is inside that control) or just a full left side switch shoot me a PM.

I will also need some more parts so part whores please follow this thread. We are bringing either a 01 or a 92 back from the grave... (2 parts bikes 1 engine)

Need to know the year. There are different controls, choke levers and plugs on them.

We are building it with the latest switchgear, I hate the old stuff it looks like its from the 60s. so 01+ Switch gear. Addidas do you know if the 01 switch gear will plug and play with the 92 harness?

So far I have determined 3 basic left hand types"
89-00
01-02 (looks like 04+ but connector different)
04+

In my builds, I go 2006+ wiring only. 04+ is basically the same except the connector changed in 06 for the right hand to route the headlight through the start button.

I avoid 01-02 because electrical parts availability is limited and compatibility with other years is low.
06+ parts are readily available and cheap.
04-05 same as 06+ except for the right hand control connector.

son of a b... I have a 92 and a 01... I think we are going to just use the 01 wiring harness since its in good condition... But I will probably have to find me a cheap 06 one in the future :(

2004+ wiring harnesses are really cheap. There was the right hand control change in 2006 otherwise 2004+ are the same.
2001-2002 are kind of bastard years: half old and half new. I avoid those years due to that and limited parts availability.

How plug and play is that? What all would I have to change? Really I have an entire 2001 So I can take all the electronics off of it... I really want to keep this simple lol. I have all the switch gear for the 01 I just need the dang little choke lever and that little black piece that is inside of the left switch.

UPDATE: maybe there is one. I have 2 different connectors for left controls. Can you give a photo of the left control connector on your 2001 harness?

OK.

Going 2004+ would mean different controls and changing the timing pickup to single.

I'll look in my parts and see if I have a 2001 left control. I am certain the actual choke lever is the same fro 2001+ because the plastic of the controls is the same, just different connectors.

now I am confused. The Haynes manual shows the same schematic for 97-2002. Same wiring connection for left controls 89-2002. So can you check? You have a 2001 harness. Is the left control connector the same as the older one? I wonder if same connector and just newer style of control?

I checked and the 2 different left control connectors I have are for 2004-2005 and 2006+

I do not have a 2001-2002 wiring harness in order to compare the connectors.

It is interesting to uncover the subtle differences over the years.

Yeah, I can get a pic after work tonight. The connector I have is DEFINITELY not compatible with the 92 harness, I will have to check and see if it works on the right side. I am starting to hate these minor insignificant changes suzuki decided to make.
