Hello, all

new to the motorcycle world, recently bought a 2005 gs500f as my first bike with 12k miles.as i started to go through the Haynes manual and some recommendations from other post in this forum e.g. drain the old gas. I removed the gas tank, and as I look around the carburetors i find the following.

1. Yellow circle in the picture - vent has no hose attached to it. is this OK or is there a hose needed to go there
2. Red Circle in the picture - hose connects to the bottom of the left carburetor and has a screw plug into it is this normal?
3. Gas tank has no water drain hose - If i get a replacement hose does it plug to something on the other end or do I just run it to the bottoms of the bike?
4. also the bottom T  that connect to the vent hose that goes over the air filter it has a small rip in it, is this something i should be worry off?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated, Many Thanks.

1. Should route a hose to behind the battery box or you may get crosswind starving
2. I am guessing this is for syncing?
3. Drains by the right foot right behind the motor, there is a rubber hold down thingy there.
4. I am not fully sure what you are talking about but I would fix any tear

#2: Sounds like it is a hose someone connected to the carb drain.
Can we get a picture of the other end?

Other info appears correct.

Thank you for your responses.

this is the picture of the other end of the hose with the screw plugged into it, is attached to the bottom of the left carburetor

thanks again.

That is the vacuum line that goes to the frame petcock to turn the gas on.
So that makes me ask what do you have for the frame petcock or was it removed?

It's an extention hose you add to the left carb the first time you sync, to make the next time you sync a breeze  :thumb:

Yes, I forgot it was newer carbs. Vacuum is that on older carbs. Newer carbs vacuum for petcock comes off right.

1.  That is the tee that connects to the top of the air box.
4.  The lower tee (mine was torn too and I replaced it....be prepared for sticker shock; it was like $11.49 plus shipping) is for the carb vent and it routes up and over the airbox and terminates behind the airbox (open termination end; it doesn't connect to anything).  Oh, and have fun getting that lower tee on without dismanteling the carbs.  I managed to do it, but it took time and patience.
