The bigger PITA for me is going to this forum through the browser on my smartphone and still receiving a popup box that says Tapatalk can be used with this site...even though it hasn't worked in months.

I don't recall seeing a request to debate whether or not people should use PC or smartphone or whether they should use browser or app-that-the-website-says-should-work.   But, I see it took less than 10 replies for the post whores and others to chime in with "what do you need a smartphone/Tapatalk for anyway?" The point is that the website itself says it is available when accessed on a smartphone....if it's never going to work, the pop-up needs to go away.

Maybe next we can turn this into a PC vs Mac or iOS vs Android debate.... :2guns:

Ah....iOS v/s Android. My fav!

Ive done all I can do on the Tapatalk for now. The software is installed correctly. The permissions are correct. The forum is registered with Tapatalk. Im sure all of this was done by John with the previous plugin update. Im still looking into it but Im at a dead end for now. Sorry guys.

Ok, I'll weigh in.  Not worth much, I know.

I bought Tapatalk on Android for use on this forum, as well as advrider and another one, who's name escapes me right now.  It is an ok app. It crashed quite a bit, but the devs did update often, so I think in time it got better.  The forum that got the most use on Tapatalk for me was this one.  The browser on android was fine, and I didn't get too hurt over losing Tapatalk.

Now my company has switched to Iphone.  It is no better than Android, and in some cases it is worse. Most of my complaints with Safari, I will admit, are simply things that an iOs user would never notice.  Yes  -believe it or not- buttons are good, people!

So, if Tapatalk does get fixed here, I would probably spring for it again on iOs.

You guys working on it on the back end can go ahead and quote me to the Tapatalk people.  Maybe they can be motivated to help you out. (They should be!  That's where they get their money.)

It is a browser and it is free. iOS and Apple as a company have LONG been known not to support Java or Flash which a lot sites use and therefore on Apple products will not work.

I find Chrome to be much better than Safari on my iPhone.

Same deal though, lots of pinch zooming & horizontal scrolling, hard to hit the little new post icons and the page numbers, can't upload pictures etc.

Tapatalk I can just hit the Unread tab and zoom through everything I haven't seen yet without having to zoom in and out on each and every page.

quite simply , tapatalk makes forums FUN from a mobile device. otherwise, see above  :thumb:

Sorry, you misunderstood my post.

I meant that with so many sites, forums and more out there on the net, there are other solutions for paid software

However, if some of you didnt have such a small screen, you wouldnt have to zoom and scroll......LOL

On a more serious note, I have been working with Tapatalk on this and verified everything is setup correctly. They want to FTP into the server and without John giving the OK on this, I cant allow it. Sorry.

What's the saying? It's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission?  :icon_twisted:

Having vendors FTP into your server like this to troubleshoot is never a good idea.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

Exactly. Everything would have to be backed up, a temp password generated and given for temp access. I'm assuming you guys/gals like coming here on a normal basis? Because giving that info out could mean a site that doesn't work if they do something wrong.

So for me, I would ask permission and let John decide rather than calling him to say I am responsible for the sites hacking and crashing. That would be very bad.

I've Tapatalk on my site, but I also installed a skin that allows for easier reading on handhelds / tablets. The site recognizes if you have a handheld and shows that skin if so; you also have the option to go to the full site.

I frankly don't like Tapatalk b/c they are monetizing something they don't own (my site.) That said, several users requested it so I added it anyway.
