i read somewhere that we can put a stock SV650 shock on our GS...i just talked to some guy and he sais he has a 2002 stock shock with about 5000 miles on it....the price is 10 bucks  :guns: ....not much for a shock ehh?

should i buy it?

man, this bike is gonna cost me an arm and a leg   ;)

Will it go onto your bike?  yes

Will it fit correctly?  no

The shock is a couple of inchs too long and the damping is barely better than an OEM GS shock.  To make it work at all you have to get/make extended dogbones, which totally screws up the leverage ratio the Suzuiki engineers carefully designed for it.

If you need a newer shock I have one you can have if you cover the postage.

ok, good thing i asked before buying...i think i read that a sv shock is a direct bolt on pablos web site....thanks for the offer but i'm looking for something that will raise my tail...i thinkg the bike is too low on the back so i would like to jack it up and inprove the handling...got any sugestions?

Go with the Kat or GSXR shocks... the SV shock might upset the balance of the bike for you.  Not to mention, if it jacks the rear up that high, after you redo the linkages, you'll need to lengthen the kickstand

Last month I bumped into this guy that had some GSXR and Kat shocks. He wanted $25 for a non remote reservoir shock and $75 for a remote shock. The only GSXR 750 shock he has is on the back of my 89, but he did have a few remote reservoir shocks with the full compliment of adjustments etc. I can talk to him and see what exactly he has if anyone wants. I also eventually (after my mystery shock is rebuilt) would sell my GSXR shock. Oh never mind... I need it for my 1100. Lemme know if there is anyone wanting any of these.
Cool.

I have an SV shock.  It works pretty well.  It's not really an upgrade over the GS shock, but it does raise the ride height about an inch and a quarter, which is nice because even with the extra height I still flat foot on both sides.  Also, you don't need to make new dog bones.  just cut the flanges on the bottom of the shock and drill a new hole.  Pretty simple.  The yellow SV shock looks great on the bike too.  Way better than the black stocker.

GRU:  don't believe all these people who've never tried it.  If the shock is only ten bucks (that's what I paid for mine too) then it's well worth a try.  Especially since you don't have to mess with new dogbones, which means if you don't like it, you can always bolt a KAT shock on no problem.  And if you looking for something to raise ride height, the SV will work well for you.  I have mine at the minimum preload and it still raises it an inch and a quarter.

There is a Kat shock at e-bay, a pre 93 model they said. I wonder if it worths the price or should i get a newer one. Of course it depends on the mileage it has but they didn't tell that, perhaps didn't actually know.

I really need a stiffer rear shock for the 2 up riding, the bike gets too low with 2 heavy passengers. I wonder if the 93 kat shock spring would work ok, but if it's worn out it wouldn't absorb rebound and would lead to uneven tire wear. Any ideas?
