I would rather install a loud ass alarm then pay $600 for lojack and a maintenance fee every year, plus they only have a 90% recovery rating, It will probably be down to 85% by next year.

They wont tell you this, but not every police department/unit as the system lojack claims will be used to track your lojack.

Former motorcycle thief's advice on how to make your bike less appealing to thieves (doesn't speak highly of lojack)

sandman92124

minus the whole locks, i dont see how it could have been less appealing, the thing gets parked next to immaculate older gs1100 and several harleys, with rash on the side of the bike, it just makes no sense, why steal the least expensive beat up bike that actually would have been harder to start than the rest. mother fuckers, never again without theft insurance

jacob92icu

Man that really sucks... At least you don't have it as bad as char on two wheels... You'll get another one! Just don't forget to sleep with it this time!
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Apartments is the prime place bikes get stolen. Even more so if gated. Guy on utube had his stolen from a apartment parkin complex that had key code entry and night time security. Oh and in lower section of that complex had a police sub station.

Ps lojack dont stop ppl from takin bike. Therfor not woth money just to get parts bike back. And yes thats what it will be almost every time.

I have LoJack on mine as it came with it. No it doesn't keep it from being stolen but it can help recovery it. Now if it's stolen and you don't know until a week later, then yes, it's likely trashed or in parts. But if like this guy where at 3:15 he left his bike and within 30 mins it was stolen, he would have had a very good chance of recovering it as it would still be loaded on someones truck or trailer

Be like the guy north of me who had his stolen with lojack. They found it alright, the lojack unit tossed on side of road. If your bike is stolen your going to get a damaged bike back even if recovered in 30 minutes (which as never happened with lojack that i have seem proof of).  Living in an apartment is the worst time to own a motorcycle. I actually might order the alarm system that goes off if bike is messed with and set off a remote you have on your key chain, i would rather spend $40-80 on that then lojack. Only because the alarm will stop a thief, lojack is nothing more then an over priced gps.

However to each his own on lojack, but if even thief's brags about how crappy lojack is that should mean something. I never once heard a thief say "i went to steal a motorcycle and a loud ass alarm went off, i just ignored it and stole it anyhow". What you hear is "man that thing had an alarm!" ( as they run down the street).

P.S: If it was already on bike cool, but most people buy that thinking it will 1 prevent it from getting stolen, 2 they will get it back unharmed. both false.

I'm also on the side on "lojack blows" its super easy to disable and most SO's arnt going to make a stolen bike anywhere near the top of the to-do list. If your hell bent on tracking the bike wire up another power source and hook up a gps tracking unit. You can find them sold on line used for tracking trucks and cheating spouses.

What a bummer.  Hard to stop a motivated thief.  My guess is they already realize the bike isn't going to bring in big $$$ in parts.  Doesn't help you though.

I havnt heard a thing on lojack so i cant say anything there. However i did own a scooter before that had an alarm on it. I locked the forks and left the alarm on all the time which was what saved it. One night i heard the warning chirp, then soon after it started going off. Note i parked it under a window by my house so i figured either someone was trying to steal it or break in using it to stand on. I have my license to carry so i walked out front with my side arm. Lemme tell you how fast people run when an alarm goes off and someones standing there with a gun. Granted it may be a little overboard but better to protect your stuff and yourself i say.

IDK what LoJack model you have had but being I've had my bike down to the frame, I know where mine is at. I originally found mine when I was going through the wiring and found a small thin power wire (red) that was soldered on a pin in a harness. The module itself is inside the back of the front cowl along with its backup battery. They both are sealed units so there is no disabling it unless you find it and cut it out.

Here locally, about two weekends ago we had a larger get together for a local bike clubs anniversary. People came from all over. Two Busas were stolen from a hotel parking lot at night.

Wow man that really blows, makes you wanna hurt someone when you get ripped off.  :2guns: What year is it?
I live north of you in Riverside area and will keep an eye out for parts (I also have an "E").

As far as LoJack I have come up with what I call "Cheap-Jack", you use a cellphone and hard wire the charger to the battery and hide it somewhere with the ringer off. Almost all cell providers offer free tracking now, so if your ride gets swiped you can track it. As a bonus you can set it to auto answer and you can listen to coversations around it.

I helped a buddy set one up in his Bel Air, I won't say where I hid it but its a good location that should get great signal. Ran a nice hidden wire for power and he has a back up phone if he ever needs it (and wants to pull his car apart to get it). It was a Sprint phone, costs him nothing but 10 bucks a month for the additional line. He has the Sprint Family Locator set up to text him if it leaves his house. If the car battery gets pulled because someone is trying to kill a Lo-Jack the phone battery lasts about 2-3 days if you don't use it and if the theif has a Lo-Jack jammer it will not affect a 3G phone.

But like others said a deterrent like a loud alarm is the best defense, also locking your forks with the key is a good place to start and its already built in, of course it will not stop a modded key..

Sorry about the bike man...
Follow the path of least acceptance!

browncheetah

sorry to hear about it. did you use the steering lock?

CrazyDoc

Lojack is beat via any cheap jammer that you can by for around 25-40 bucks online. Yes it is you legal to own in the US but that doesnt mean you cant get them. Hell we have found radio jammers on guys coming into the jails.

sandman92124

yeah, no word on it yet, and theres no other reasonably priced gs's around, so now my clip ons, my headlight bracket, and my katana wheel swap are just sitting here, well i look into getting another bike, waiting for the police to contact my apartment complex and look at the video tape ( one way in and one way out) fingers crossed they took it in a truck
