GS mod info

i see there are a lot of people like me who are new to the GS and have a lot of questions...i was thinking to make a small website on GS mod info so new GS owners can see what are good mods and which ones would help them...something like this:

15 tooth front sprocket - better acceleration than stock
150 mains, 40 pilot jets - good way to rejet
katana rear shock - great way to improve handiling
140/70-17 rear tire - works good on stock rim
94 octane gas works good but 87 will work good too
and so on........

i would like to know what is a good spark plug gap for the GS?
anything you can think of that will help someone....like, what is a good tire pressure for front and rear tires for casual riding...

if everyone gave a little info on what they did and if it works good, and also how hard was it to do and how much $$$ for the mod...

hey pablo, i seen your site and it's awsome...it's got a lot of info  

but i think that it'll be a lot easyer to go to a site and see a list of mods like i listed when i stareted the topic and see what does it do and how well it works...i learned a lot on your site buy i had to read a whole lot....a lot of us don't want to read for 5 minutes to find out what is a good spark plug gap.?.?.?

Yeah people dont want to read alot but unfortunately there is no black white answer.  What might be the best for my bike may be aweful for your bike.  If you just want answers to a question then your just going to keep asking the same question again and again, but if you learn how to solve the question you can answer your own question next time.  

For example, if someone just told you that you need $10 gas to drive your car, and all you ever did was put in $10 and drive for 200 miles and then put in $10 whats going to happen if you get a different car?


Also a good way to learn everything is to start your own site with that information.  Like pablo did, all it takes is time.  I remember a year ago when we switched to the new Message board and pablo was just getting his site started, (he had like 5 things listed)  now its an immense resource for anyone with a GS and I'm sure he has learned a hell of a lot more than he thought he was going to before he started the site.

how much is a liter of 95 octane gas in england?

Varies a lot from Town to Town but where I fill up its about 75-80 pence for all unleaded fuels. It tend to go up and down by a penny or so on an almost daily basis. Given current exchage rates it should be coming down soon. My company buys a lot of fuel (ships) and we hedge it by buying options on the "futures" in a basket of currencys. My cager colleagues in the office tell me they are currently paying 76p at Tesco, the nearest thing here to WallyWorld.

i'm wondering if that will work!? i tried 130 mains and my gs goes only about 80mph. then i tried 125 mains and it was a bit better. now i'm using the 120 stock mains and my gs runs good.

The 150 mains and 40 pilots (20 on 2001 and later - different carbs) work very well with K&N pod type filters and a less restrictive exhaust.  With the stock air filter and exhaust it would run badly.  Unless you have a restricted model, going one or two steps larger than stock on the main jet should make the bike run better at full throttle - but some adjustment of the needle hieght would probably be required as well.
